13) Cowboys 13, Saints 10? You think handicapping is bleeping easy? Try this score on for size; Dallas didn?t score in the second half, but pulled a very big upset, their 4th win in a row.

Dallas had six defensive/special teams penalties, in the third quarter alone. Their defense played their hearts out, just a great game. New Orleans was averaging 37 points a game, and then this happened.

As 13-10 games go, this one was fascinating.

12) Some other stuff about this game:
? Saints had 59 total yards in first half, their least since 2002.
? Saints didn?t score in first half for first time in their last 72 games.
? For the game, Saints ran only 49 plays for 176 yards.
? New Orleans had scored 30+ points in eight of its last nine games. Go figure.

11) NFL used to have two different facemark penalties, 5-yard and 15-yard penalties for degree of the foul. Wish they would go back to that; someone just touching the facemask shouldn?t merit a 15-yard penalty.

10) An enterprising human wagered $36,000 on the Toronto Raptors Thursday, to beat Golden State? if the Raptors won, the guy banked $9,000.

Today is November 30; if you told me back on September 30 that someone would wager $36K on the Warriors to lose a basketball game, I?d tell that person to get a psych evaluation, but in the world of sports, things change quickly.

Toronto won in OT; to paraphrase a Latin proverb, ?Fortune favors the bold?

9) Things you learn when you watch too much TV:

One of several hundred reasons why I?m no longer married: If you buy the Mrs a Jaguar SUV for Christmas, she?ll smile and be happy. Who knew? Never tried that one.

8) Mets hired Chili Davis as their new hitting coach; this will be the third different job in three years for Davis, his 4th in last six years. Mets have had three batting coaches the last three years, and five in last six years.

Davis had really good success in Oakland when Yoenis Cespedes was there, so??..

7) Boston Red Sox doled out 66 full World Series, worth $416,837.72 each, to players, coaches staff from this past season. Players vote on who gets full/partial/no playoff shares.

The minimum salary in the major leagues is $545,000, so for rookies and also coaches, this is significant money.

6) Texas Tech hired Utah State coach Matt Wells to run its football program; Wells went 44-34 at Utah State (his alma mater) including a 10-2 record so far this year. He is bringing both his coordinators with him from Utah State.

5) There are 353 Division I college basketball teams; 33 of those teams are being coached this season by a person who has never coached a Division I team before.

According to college hoop expert Ken Pomeroy, rookie coaches went 331-478 LY, 412-602 the year before, are 77-127 so far this year, with 27 of those wins vs non-D-I teams. You didn?t get hired as a rookie coach because the last coach did well.

4) I complained about ESPN?s Jay Bilas during the Maui Classic, but he sounds like Vin Scully compared to Dan Dakich, one of the most annoying people to ever speak into a microphone.

Dakich played/coached at Indiana, was a mediocre head coach at Bowling Green for 10 years, and now comes across like a freakin? know-it-all on TV a few days a week. Maybe he?s a terrific guy off camera, but no voice makes me reach for the mute button faster than Dakich?s.

3) Chargers? offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt will interview for the coaching job at his alma mater Georgia Tech, after Paul Johnson retired earlier this week.

2) Clippers 133, Kings 121? Sacramento had 68 points at halftime??and was behind. This was a fun game to watch. Clippers are an actual team, with no one big star- they?ve won 11 of their last 13 games.

1) One of my favorite players to watch in the NBA is Montrezl Harrell, who in his 4th season in the NBA, is averaging 15.9 ppg for the first-place Clippers.

Why do I like watching him play? Because he works really hard; he scored 5.7 ppg as a freshman at Louisville, improved to where scored 15.7 ppg as a junior. You see guys progress to become an outstanding player, and you know the work thats gone into it behind the scenes.

Tom Wilson scores, ejected; Capitals extend win streak to 7

WASHINGTON (AP) Tom Wilson scored again before being ejected, Nicklas Backstrom had a hat trick and the Washington Capitals beat the New Jersey Devils 6-3 on Friday night to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Wilson scored his seventh goal in nine games since coming back from a lengthy suspension, extending his career-best goals streak to five games and points streak to seven. The short-handed goal gives Wilson 13 points, but a hit on New Jersey's Brett Seney late in the second period put him back in the spotlight for the wrong reason.

After Seney released the puck and it had gone into the corner late in the second period, Wilson skated up from behind and hit him with his left shoulder. Wilson was assessed a match penalty for an illegal check to the head, which carries with it an automatic suspension that the NHL must review before deciding to rescind. Wilson, who was given a 20-game suspension that was reduced to 14 for an illegal check to the head in the preseason finale, could avoid being suspended. After review, he did not make principal contact to Seney's head, it did not look like a predatory play and Deney returned at the start of the third.

Backstrom had a hat trick for the first time since Dec. 13, 2014, and added an assist for a four-point game. Alex Ovechkin scored an empty-netter, his 626th goal that put him into sole possession of 15th on the NHL's career list. Andre Burakovsky also scored for Washington, and Braden Holtby made 33 saves.

Travis Zajac, Nico Hischier and Johansson scored for the Devils.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Aleksander Barkov scored at 2:26 of overtime for Florida to hand Buffalo its second loss in two nights following a 10-game winning streak.

Jared McCann and Evgenii Dadonov also scored, and James Reimer stopped 20 shots.

Sam Reinhart had a goal and an assist and Jeff Skinner also scored for Buffalo. The Sabres were coming off a 5-4 loss at Tampa Bay.

DENVER (AP) - Colton Parayko scored 1:34 into overtime to lift St. Louis past Colorado.

Vladimir Tarasenko and Alexander Steen scored in regulation, and Jake Allen stopped 27 shots.

Nikita Zadorov and Mikko Rantanen scored for the Avalanche.

FLAMES 4, KINGS 1

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Mikael Backlund had two goals and an assist in Calgary's victory over Los Angeles.

Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan also scored, and Mike Smith made 13 saves for the Pacific Division-leading Flames. Adrian Kempe scored for the Kings, coming off a 3-2 loss at Edmonton on Thursday night.

DUCKS 2, HURRICANES 1, OT

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Ryan Getzlaf scored 1:15 into overtime to lift Anaheim past Carolina.

Pontus Aberg scored the tying goal with 3:50 left in regulation. John Gibson stopped 33 shots to help the Ducks win their third straight and for the fifth time in six games.

Andrei Svechnikov scored an early goal for Carolina.

Butler gets Duke transfer Jordan Tucker eligible when the fall semester ends in a couple weeks- he is expected to improve the Bulldogs a lot, so have to follow guys like that and see who provides a boost to their team.

12) Big 14 is going with 20 conference games this season for first time, so everyone is playing two league games this weekend, which in my opinion is too early for conference games.

8) TMZ published a video of Kansas City Chiefs? RB Kareem Hunt involved in an incident in a hotel last February, and Friday night the Chiefs released Hunt, which has to be at least a little bit shocking to the team.

7) One thing I don?t need for Christmas is an article in a national publication about a 14-year old kid who ?might? be the first pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Nothing like putting a ridiculous amount of pressure on a kid; find something more current to write about.

4) White Sox non-tendered DH Matt Davidson Friday; he hit .462 with 7 homers in seven games in Kansas City LY; in 116 games everywhere else, Davidson his .213 with 13 homers. Chicago also got rid of OF Avisail Garcia.

Maybe the Royals should sign Davidson?

3) The new ACC Network will start up on August 22, 2019. On August 29, the first conference football game will kick off on the new all-ACC platform when Georgia Tech visits Clemson for a Thursday night game. Hopefully, DirecTV will carry this channel; they do not carry the Pac-12 Network.

2) Kentucky Wildcats have 2nd-least experience of any college basketball team in the country, and they?ve won six games in a row since getting waxed by Duke in their opener, but Wildcats? opponents are shooting 40.3% from the arc (#328).

Considering that their schedule to this point is rated #316, their defense better improve or SEC opponents will be raining 3?s in the Wildcats all winter.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Nazem Kadri broke a tie with 3:20 to play and Zach Hyman scored twice in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night.

Hyman added an empty-net goal in the final minute to seal Toronto's fourth straight victory and Minnesota's third loss in a row. The Maple Leafs improved to 19-8-0, a point behind Tampa Bay for the NHL lead.

Kadri's goal bounced off Wild defenseman Nick Seeler, who was on the wrong end of two such plays Saturday. Seeler also had a puck deflect off him and into his own goal when Tyler Ennis scored Toronto's second goal of the night.

Auston Matthews also scored, and Frederick Anderson made 38 saves for the Maple Leafs for his 15th victory of the season. Matthews scored Toronto's first goal, his third in two games since returning from a shoulder injury that sidelined him 14 games.

The win came after news broke that Toronto signed restricted free-agent William Nylander to a six-year extension, ending an impasse with his contract. Saturday was the deadline for a deal to be done.

Jason Zucker, Eric Staal and Jordan Greenway scored for Minnesota.

LIGHTNING 5, PANTHERS 4, OT

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Brayden Point scored a power-play goal 3:12 into overtime and Tampa Bay overcame a 4-1 deficit to beat Florida.

Point took a pass from Nikita Kucherov across the front of the crease to the left side and flipped it past James Reimer. Tampa Bay improved to 19-7-1, a point ahead of Toronto for the overall NHL lead.

Kucherov had a goal and two assists, Cedric Paquette, Mathieu Joseph and Alex Killorn also scored, and Louis Domingue made 24 saves. Evgenii Dadonov and Jonathan Huberdeau each had a goal and an assist, and Frank Vatrano and Aleksander Barkov also scored for the Panthers.

SENATORS 6, SHARKS 2

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) - Ben Harpur scored his first NHL goal, Craig Anderson stopped 36 shots and the Senators beat San Jose to spoil Erik Karlsson's return to Ottawa.

The former Senators captain was playing his first game in Ottawa since he was traded to San Jose in the offseason. The team honored the two-time Norris Trophy winner with a video tribute.

Ryan Dzingel, Mark Stone, Mikkel Boedker, Magnus Paajarvi and Bobby Ryan also scored tp help the Senators win their third straight. Boedker added three assists for a four-point outing.

Joe Thornton and Barclay Goodrow scored for the Sharks. They have lost four in a row.

ISLANDERS 3, BLUE JACKETS 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Casey Cizikas scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period and New York won in its return to the Nassau Coliseum, rallying to beat Columbus.

Anders Lee and Anthony Beauvillier scored in the second period to tie it, and Thomas Greiss stopped 28 shots. Markus Hannikainen and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored for Columbus.

It was the Islanders' first regular season game in 3 1/2 years at the Coliseum, the team's home from its inception in 1972 until 2015. This was the first of 21 games at the arena as part of a unique arrangement with Brooklyn's Barclays Center, the Islanders' home since the 2015-16 season.

COYOTES 6, BLUES 1

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Clayton Keller had a goal and two assists and Arizona scored four second-period goals to rout St. Louis.

Richard Panik, Jakob Chychrun, Christian Fischer, Nick Cousins and Alex Goligoski also scored for the Coyotes. Panik added an assist and Nick Schmaltz and Derek Stepan had two each to help Arizona win its third straight. Adin Hill, pressed into service in goal with the Coyotes' top two goaltenders, Antti Raanta and Darcy Kuemper, out with injuries, finished with 25 saves in his second consecutive start.

Robert Thomas scored for the Blues.

FLYERS 4, PENGUINS 2

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Dale Weise scored in the first minute of the third period and Philadelphia held on to beat Pittsburgh.

Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny and Jakub Voracek also scored, and Anthony Stolarz stopped 30 shots.

Sidney Crosby scored his 14th for Pittsburgh, and Riley Sheahan added a goal. The Penguins have lost two straight and seven of 10.

RED WINGS 4, BRUINS 2

BOSTON (AP) - Frans Nielsen scored his first goal of the season to break a tie with 8:07 left, and Jimmy Howard made 37 saves in Detroit's victory over Boston.

Tyler Bertuzzi and Dylan Larkin had second-period goals, and Gustav Nyquist added an empty-netter. The Red Wings improved 11-4-1 in their last 16 games after opening the season 1-7-2.

David Backes and Ryan Donato scored for Boston.

STARS 2, CANUCKS 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Alex Radulov scored with 3:23 left to lift Dallas past Vancouver.

Jamie Benn had a third-period goal, and Ben Bishop made 24 saves in his return from a lower-body injury. Dallas is 3-1-1 in its last five games.

Bo Horvat scored for Vancouver. The Canucks have only one win in their past 12.

JETS 4, DEVILS 3, OT

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Mark Scheifele scored his second goal of the game at 4:43 of overtime, tucking the puck past Keith Kinkaid to lift Winnipeg past New Jersey.

Josh Morrissey and Andrew Copp also scored, and Laurent Brossoit made 36 saves. Marcus Johansson, Jesper Bratt and Taylor Hall scored for New Jersey. The Devils have lost five straight.

PREDATORS 5, BLACKHAWKS 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Eeli Tolvanen scored his first NHL goal and added an assist to lead Nashville past Chicago.

Craig Smith, Kevin Fiala and Ryan Johansen also each had a goal and an assist, Austin Watson added an empty-netter, and Pekka Rinne stopped 19 shots.

Brandon Saad and Artem Anisimov scored for Chicago.

CANADIENS 5, RANGERS 2

MONTREAL (AP) - Shea Weber and Artturi Lehkonen each scored twice and Montreal beat New York to snap a five-game losing streak.

Tomas Tatar also scored, and Carey Price stopped 20 shots. Jimmy Vesey and Ryan Strome scored for the Rangers.

OILERS 2, GOLDEN KNIGHTS 1

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Ryan Spooner scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, lifting Edmonton past Vegas.

Connor McDavid also scored as the Oilers won their third straight and improved to 4-1-1 under new coach Ken Hitchcock. Mikko Koskinen stopped 31 shots.

William Karlsson scored for the Golden Knights, who snapped a season-high five-game winning streak. Marc-Andre Fleury finished with 32 saves.

Jalen Hurts came off the bench and saved the day for the Crimson Tide; this is a kid with a 26-2 record as a starter who got benched LY but didn?t transfer, and didn?t whine- he just stayed the course and was ready when his name was called again. Good for him.

11) UAB 27, Middle Tennessee State 25? How has UAB coach Bill Clark not been scooped up by a big-money program? His Blazers went 8-5 LY, are 10-3 this year- they didn?t even field a team in 2015-16, when school tried to shut the program down for financial reasons.

What Clark has done at UAB is remarkable and certainly under-reported by national media.

Aberg scores twice in 3rd, Ducks beat Caps 6-5

WASHINGTON (AP) Pontus Aberg scored twice in the third period, giving Anaheim the lead with 5:05 remaining, and the Ducks stopped Washington's seven-game winning streak a 6-5 victory Sunday

The Ducks trailed 5-1 in the second before rallying for their fourth consecutive victory. Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and two assists and Rickard Rakell had a goal and an assist in the finale of a five-game trip.

Ryan Miller stopped 19 shots, and Andrew Cogliano and Hampus Lindholm also scored in Anaheim's highest-scoring game of the season.

Evgeny Kuznetsov and Chandler Stephenson each had a goal and an assist for Washington, which chased John Gibson after scoring three times in the first part of the first period. Nickslas Backstrom, Tom Wilson and Nic Dowd also scored for the Capitals.

JETS 4, RANGERS 3, SO

NEW YORK (AP) - Mark Scheifele started Winnipeg's third-period comeback and scored the deciding goal in the shootout against New York.

Jack Roslovic and Bryan Little also scored in the third as the Jets erased a 3-0 deficit and won their third straight. Jacob Trouba had two assists, and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 16 shots.

Marc Staal had a goal and an assist, and Chris Kreider and Jesper Fast also scored for New York. Henrik Lundvist made 39 saves through overtime as the Rangers lost for the fourth time in five games.

FLAMES 3, BLACKHAWKS 2

CHICAGO (AP) - Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm each had a goal and an assist and Calgary beat Chicago to take the Pacific Division lead.

Derek Ryan also scored, and Mike Smith made 22 saves for the Flames. Jonathan Toews and Dylan Strome scored for struggling Chicago, which dropped its fourth straight and lost for the sixth time in seven games. The Blackhawks fell to 3-8-2 since Jeremy Collition replaced fired coach Joel Quenneville.

AVALANCHE 2, RED WINGS 0

DETROIT (AP) - Semyon Varlamov made 24 saves for his 24th career shutout and first of the season and Colorado beat Detroit to stretch its points streak to 11 games at 9-0-2.

Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist, and Gabriel Landeskog also scored.

Jonathan Bernier stopped 27 shots for Detroit.

SHARKS 3, CANADIENS 1

MONTREAL (AP) - Martin Jones made 40 saves and San Jose beat Montreal to snap a four-game skid.

Justin Braun, Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski scored to help San Jose improve to 13-10-5. Jones is 7-1-0 in his career against Montreal. Jeff Petry scored for Montreal, and Carey Price made 26 saves. The Canadiens dropped to 12-10-5 overall and fell to 1-3-0 on their current five-game homestand.
