Blues top Wild 3-0 for 3rd straight shutout, 10th win in row

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Jordan Binnington made 31 saves and the St. Louis Blues posted their third straight shutout, beating the Minnesota Wild 4-0 on Sunday for their 10th straight victory.

Binnington made 21 saves to blank Arizona on Thursday night, and Jake Allen stopped 32 shots in a 3-0 victory at Colorado on Saturday. St. Louis hasn't allowed a goal in 187:16, since late in an 8-3 victory over New Jersey on Tuesday night.

Vladimir Tarasenko had a goal and two assists and Ryan O'Reilly, Vince Dunn and Brayden Schenn also scored to help St. Louis match the best winning streak in franchise history, completed in January 2002. The run also ties the Blues for the longest streak in the NHL this season. The Blues have won eight straight on the road, their best such run since taking 10 straight in 2000.

Alex Stalock stopped 26 shots for Minnesota in his first action since Feb. 2.

PENGUINS 6, RANGERS 5

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang each had two goals and Pittsburgh beat New York to climb back into playoff position.

Defensemen Marcus Pettersson and Brian Dumoulin also scored and Sidney Crosby had three assists to help the Penguins pass Carolina for the second Eastern Conference wild-card spot.

Mats Zuccarello had two goals, and Kevin Hayes and Mika Zibanejad added goals for New York.

FLYERS 3, RED WINGS 1

DETROIT (AP) - Ivan Provorov broke a tie early in the third period and Oskar Lindblom had two goals in Philadelphia's victory over Detroit.

The Flyers have won 12 of their last 14 games, moving into contention for a wild card in the Eastern Conference playoffs or perhaps for one of the three guaranteed postseason spots available in the Metropolitan Division. Carter Hart made 37 saves, allowing only Darren Helm's second-period goal.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Aleksander Barkov had his second career hat trick and added an assist for his third four-game, helping Florida beat Montreal.

Riley Sheahan, Frank Vatrano and Denis Malgin also scored and James Reimer stopped 28 shots. Max Domi scored twice for the Canadiens, and Brendan Gallagher also had a goal. Antti Niemi allowed three goals on nine shots before being replaced by Carey Price.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Kyle Palmieri had a goal and two assists and Cory Schneider made 34 saves to lead New Jersey past Buffalo.

Miles Wood, Jesper Bratt and Joey Anderson also scored to help the Devils win consecutive games for the second time since the start of the year. Sam Reinhart scored for the Sabres.

Anaheim retires Hall of Fame defenseman Niedermayer's No. 27

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Scott Niedermayer accomplished a lot during his 18-year NHL career. The Hall of Fame defenseman added one more to the list on Sunday night when he became the ninth player to have his number retired by two teams.

The Anaheim Ducks raised Niedermayer's No. 27 to the rafters at the Honda Center, honoring their former team captain, who helped lead them to their only Stanley Cup title in 2007. He first had his number retired by the New Jersey Devils in 2011.

The Ducks honored Niedermayer before their game against Washington and culminated a week of events celebrating the franchise's 25th season. Niedermayer signed with Anaheim in 2005 after 13 seasons with New Jersey. He scored 60 of his 172 career goals in five seasons with the Ducks, and remains the franchise leader in goals, assists, points and power-play goals (39) among defensemen.

Ever the consummate teammate, Niedermayer mentioned every player and coach on the 2007 title team before his number was raised.

The most important teammate though on that club was his brother, Rob. Scott Niedermayer said after the ceremony that the 2003 Stanley Cup Final, where his Devils beat Rob's Ducks in seven games in 2003, put the wheels in motion on trying to play with his younger brother.

''When we were 10 years old we would have loved to beat the heck out of each other in a Stanley Cup game and rub it in. When we were older in 2003 it was a different story,'' Scott Niedermayer said. ''To win a Stanley Cup here exceeded what I thought was going to happen.''

Niedermayer won the Conn Smythe Trophy, which is given to the Most Valuable Player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, after the Ducks defeated the Ottawa Senators in five games.

''The bigger the game, the better he played. He is the greatest champion of our generation,'' said former Anaheim great Paul Kariya. ''His ability to control the game on offense and defense was unmatched by any player.''

Niedermayer was the first player in hockey history to win a Stanley Cup, Olympic gold medal, World Championship, World Cup, Memorial Cup and World Junior title. He is also the only player to have won a combination of four Stanley Cups and two Olympic gold medals.

Niedermayer is the third player to have his number retired by Anaheim. He joins the No. 8 of Teemu Selanne and Kariya's No. 9.

''It was enjoyable. It was good to sit back and reflect,'' Niedermayer said.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Nikita Kucherov had two goals and three assists, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1 Monday night for their sixth straight win.

Brayden Point scored twice and Steven Stamkos also had a goal for the Lightning, who are 8-1-2 in their last 11 games. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 40 shots and got his 26th win. Kucherov now has 99 points to lead the league, with seven goals in the last five games.

Lukas Sedlak scored and Joonas Korpisalo finished with 15 saves for the Blue Jackets, who had won four straight.

Columbus outshot the Lightning 19-6 in the first period, but Kucherov scored twice. Stamkos made it 3-0 with just 28.1 seconds left in the second, and Point scored twice in the third.

Sedlak spoiled Vasilevskiy's bid for a third consecutive shutout with 1:45 remaining.

BLACKHAWKS 8, SENATORS 7

CHICAGO (AP) - Alex DeBrincat had three goals and two assists, and Chicago held on to beat Ottawa for its ninth win in 11 games.

Patrick Kane scored his 36th goal and added two assists to extend his point streak to 18 games - with 14 goals and 26 assists during the stretch- the longest by a player in the NHL this season. Dylan Strome also had a goal and two assists in his fourth three-point game since joining the Blackhawks on Nov. 25, and Brandon Saad, Gustav Forsling and Jonathan Toews also scored.

The 21-year-old DeBrincat's five points set a career high. His fourth NHL hat trick gives him 32 goals in his second season.

Colin White had two goals and an assist, Thomas Chabot scored twice, and Mark Stone, Bobby Ryan and Rudolfs Balcers also had goals for NHL-worst Ottawa, which lost for the eighth time in its last 11.

AVALANCHE 3, GOLDEN KNIGHTS 0

DENVER (AP) - Andrew Agozzino scored his first NHL goal, Semyon Varlamov stopped 40 shots for his second shutout of the season and Colorado ended a six-game home skid.

Tyson Jost and Matt Calvert also scored as the Avalanche won their first game at the Pepsi Center since Jan. 19. Agozzino also added an assist.

Malcolm Subban had 35 saves for a Golden Knights team that's now dropped eight of their last 11 games. Subban started back-to-back games for the first time all season with Vegas electing to rest Marc-Andre Fleury.

FLAMES 5, COYOTES 2

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Michael Frolik and Mikael Backlund each had a goal and an assist in the third period to help Calgary beat Arizona.

Mark Giordano also had a goal and an assist, and Derek Ryan and Austin Czarnik had the other goals for the Flames, who won their second straight to improve to 3-3-2 since the All-Star break. Elias Lindholm assisted on both third-period goals, Rasmus Andersson also had two assists, and Mike Smith stopped 27 shots in his third straight start (2-0-1).

Conor Garland and Jordan Weal scored for the Coyotes. Calvin Pickard finished with 29 saves in his third start for Arizona since being claimed off waivers from Philadelphia on Nov. 29.

This week's NHL betting predictions and picks: Blues blanking opponents

The St. Louis Blues will be looking to continue their incredible shutout streak, as part of an entertaining early-week hockey schedule that also includes Tampa Bay set to improve upon their ridiculous home scoring differential and the Islanders bringing their terrific defense to Alberta. Here are the top games, betting trends and tips to monitor as we inch closer to the NHL trade deadline.

Singing the Blues

It probably won't surprise you to know that the St. Louis Blues will likely be a popular Under play Tuesday night against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. That kind of totals slant happens when you record three straight shutouts, which has been a terrific cherry on top of the Blues' season-best 10-game winning streak. Nearly every St. Louis totals trend skews toward the Under, and two in particular stand out: The Blues are 9-2 to the under in their previous 11 games against teams with winning percentages above .600, and are 17-4 to the Under in their past 21 vs. Atlantic Division foes.

Don't forget About Us

Throwing up three consecutive zeroes is a great way to steal the spotlight ? but the New York Islanders are hoping bettors won't overlook their defensive effort as they visit Alberta later this week for dates with the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers. While the Blues will draw plenty of betting attention, the Islanders remain the top defensive unit in the league, having allowed a paltry 2.29 goals per game ? more than two-tenths fewer than the next-closest team. The Under has cashed in New York's last six road games, with those contests seeing an average of just 3.5 total goals scored.

Moneyline Masters

No team is automatic when it comes to being a favorite on the moneyline, but the Tampa Bay Lightning are the closest thing to it when they play at Amalie Arena. The league-leading Lightning carry an incredible 24-5-2 home record into the week, and will likely be hefty favorites when they welcome the Buffalo Sabres to the Sunshine State on Thursday. The Lightning have an absurd +1.74 average goal differential at Amalie Arena this season, making them by far the safest home moneyline play in the league. The Sabres come into the week with a dismal 11-14-3 record away from Buffalo.

Goalie Profile: Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings

Quick is sick ? and not in a good way. The veteran Kings netminder missed Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Boston Bruins due to illness, and his status for Monday's game against the Capitals is up in the air. Quick could probably use a bit of a breather given how he has performed of late; the two-time Stanley Cup champion is just 2-2-2 with a 3.58 goals-against average since the All-Star break, the highest rate of any netminder with at least five appearances in that span. Throw a pedestrian .878 save percentage over that stretch into the mix, and the Kings might go in a different direction in goal this week.

Injury Update: G Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks are reportedly close to having Crawford back in the crease. The veteran netminder has missed more than two months with a concussion suffered after he smacked his head against a goalpost, but he says he feels "ready to return" and could be back inside the Chicago crease in the next week or so. It has been a difficult season for the two-time Stanley Cup-winning netminder, who is 6-14-1 with a 3.28 goals-against average on the campaign. He has, however, been a strong Over play so far in 2018-19, with the Blackhawks having gone 7-2-2 O/U in his previous 11 appearances.

Hat Trick Trends

No referee has seen a larger chasm between home team and road team scoring than Garrett Rank. The veteran official and star amateur golfer has presided over a home scoring average of 3.54 goals per game in the 52 games he has worked, compared to a 2.54 scoring average by the road team. Home sides are 30-24 ATS in his assignments.

Perhaps the Arizona Coyotes could petition to have Rank work more of their home games. The Coyotes own the largest home-road split in terms of units won of any team in the NHL entering the week. Arizona is at -6.10 units at Gila River Arena on the season, but has been terrific away from Glendale with a road units won total of +8.57.

The Blues' sudden hot streak has sent them skyrocketing up the futures table, now listed at +1,800 to win the Stanley Cup ? the ninth-best odds of any team in the league. The Lightning are the runaway leaders at +240, with the Maple Leafs next in line at +800. Calgary (+900), San Jose (+900) and Winnipeg (+1,100) round out the top five.
