Thursday?s 6-pack

? Colorado 84, UCLA 73? Is possible both UCLA/Arizona jobs will be open soon.

? TCU 70, Oklahoma State 68? JD Miller hit a tough runner at the buzzer for the win.

? LSU 92, Mississippi State 88 OT? Really good game that felt like a March game.

? Vermont 86, Maine 63? Vermont leads by a game in America East.

? UNLV 83, Boise State 72? Rebels made 14-26 three-pointers.

? Villanova 66, Creighton 59 OT? First meeting was 90-78; go figure. This game ended on a hoop that was well after the buzzer, but was allowed- that hoop covered the spread.

Quote of the Day
?A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.?
David Brinkley

Thursday?s quiz
Where was the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise located, before they moved to Oklahoma?

Wednesday?s quiz

Tuesday?s quiz
St Louis Blues made the Stanley Cup finals in its first three years in existence, in the late 60?s/early 70?s, but went 0-12 those three Finals series.

NCAA Basketball Game Preview - Iowa Hawkeyes at Indiana Hoosiers

The Iowa Hawkeyes are coming off an impressive Big Ten win, but there is no time to exhale in a tough conference slate of games. Iowa is hoping to follow a victory over No. 5 ranked Michigan with a road win against the Indiana Hoosiers. Iowa is looking for a strong finish to the season in order to qualify with a nice seed for March Madness in a few weeks down the road.

Indiana is likewise coming off a great win as it beat Michigan State in overtime last time out. The Hoosiers get the home court in this one but Iowa has the superior team, so this one could be a close game down to the end.

Iowa is in good shape to make the NCAA tournament while Indiana could be on the bubble. The Hoosiers would be ecstatic to grab this much-needed win in NCAA men?s basketball betting lines.

This NCAA basketball game between the Iowa Hawkeyes and Indiana Hoosiers will be held at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 7th, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.

We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NCAA basketball season.

Odds Analysis

Iowa has a record of 17-5 on the season. The Hawkeyes are back in the top-25 nationally after beating the Wolverines and it broke a two-game losing streak. Iowa previously dropped back-to-back games to Michigan State and Minnesota. The Hawkeyes were undefeated in their non-conference slate but are just 6-5 in conference.

Indiana is 13-9 overall and 4-7 in the conference. Most of the time a record like that wouldn?t have a team in contention for March Madness but the Big Ten is strong enough that Indiana is still alive. The win over Michigan State broke a seven-game losing streak and Indiana is hoping to build some momentum moving forward.

Player To Watch

Romeo Langford -- The Hoosiers could be slight underdogs in this matchup, but if they get a strong game from their best player, a win is certainly feasible. Langford has burst onto the scene as a freshman and put together a nice season.

He is averaging 17.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game on the year, shooting 45.6 percent from the field but only 24.1 percent from three-point range. Langford didn?t shoot particularly well last time out against Michigan State but came up with a big shot down the stretch in overtime to clinch the win.

Key Stat

6. That?s the number of unranked teams Iowa will face within its next seven games, with the only ranked foe No. 25 Maryland. The Hawkeyes will aim to get on a roll in this stretch as it has mostly had to face better teams in conference play previously.

Iowa has an impressive team, as it showed in the double-digit win against a strong Michigan team. The Hawkeyes should have a good chance at winning most of these next seven contests.

Free NCAA Basketball ATS Picks

Indiana isn?t as bad as the overall record suggests and it played well last time out. The Hoosiers are at home and should keep this one close, but the Hawkeyes are slightly superior. Iowa is stronger than it has shown of late and should be able to pick up a key Big Ten road win against Indiana.

The spread will likely be small so the Hawkeyes are also the pick to cover the spread in NCAA men?s basketball odds.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Iowa Hawkeyes 82, Indiana Hoosiers 76

Clarke helps No. 4 Gonzaga rout San Francisco
February 7, 2019
By The Associated Press

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) Brandon Clarke had 20 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks as No. 4 Gonzaga beat San Francisco 92-62 on Thursday night for its 13th consecutive victory.

Rui Hachimura added 17 points and Zach Norvell Jr. 16 for Gonzaga (22-2, 9-0 West Coast), which was No. 1 in the Top 25 until losses to No. 1 Tennessee and No. 8 North Carolina in mid-December knocked them down. Geno Crandall scored 12.

Frankie Ferrari and Charles Minlend each scored 14 points for San Francisco (17-6, 5-4), which has lost 16 consecutive games to Gonzaga.

No. 12 HOUSTON 77, UCF 68

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Corey Davis Jr. scored 26 points on 8-for-13 shooting and Houston had another strong defensive effort to beat UCF.

Armoni Brooks added 14 points for the Cougars (22-1, 9-1 American Athletic) and Galen Robinson Jr. had 12 points and seven assists.

B.J. Taylor scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half for UCF (16-5, 6-3), and Aubrey Dawkins and Tacko Fall each added 13. Taylor hit a stepback 3-pointer to pull the Knights within eight with 1:19 left.

No. 20 IOWA 77, INDIANA 72

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -Jordan Bohannon matched his season high with 25 points Thursday and scored the last 11 for No. 20 Iowa as the Hawkeyes held on for a 77-72 victory at Indiana.

Tyler Cook added 21 points as Iowa won its second straight. The Hawkeyes (18-5, 7-5 Big Ten) also ended a three-game losing streak in the series and won at Assembly Hall for the first time since 2015.

The Hoosiers were led by Romeo Langford with 22 points. Juwan Morgan scored 17 as the Hoosiers (13-10, 4-8) lost for the eighth time in nine games.

No. 25 CINCINNATI 69, MEMPHIS 64

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Jarron Cumberland scored 17 points and keyed a late rally as Cincinnati overcame a poor shooting night to beat the Memphis Tigers.

Justin Jenifer scored 14 and Tre Scott finished with 13 points and nine rebounds as Cincinnati (20-3, 9-1 American Athletic Conference), which moved into the Top 25 this week, won its eighth straight.

Jeremiah Martin led Memphis (13-10, 5-5) with 26 points, converting 8 of 14 from 3-point range. Kyvon Davenort added 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Mike Parks Jr. finished with 11 points as Memphis lost its third straight.

The Cincinnati lead was 58-55 with 2 + minutes left, when Cumberland scored the next nine Bearcat points to provide a buffer Memphis couldn't overcome in the closing minute.

Friday?s 6-pack

? Washington State 91, Arizona State 70? There is no logical explanation for this score.

? Cincinnati 69, Memphis 64? Bearcats trailed by 11 early in second half.

? Iowa 77, Indiana 72? Hoosiers lost eight of their last nine games.

? Wofford 78, East Tennessee State 76 OT? Terriers stay unbeaten in SoCon.

? Western Kentucky 92, Rice 85, 2OT? Hilltoppers? coach Rick Stansbury missed this game with back problems; he has bulging disk(s). Bad beat if you had the Owls, +5.

? Wright State 76, Oakland 62? Grizzlies had covered nine in a row as a road underdog in Horizon League games.

Quote of the Day
?I never experienced anything like that in my career. You?re shocked. You?re surprised, but you want kids to be happy and you want them to chase their dreams. I think every kid growing up wants to play at Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Villanova. That?s the reality of it.?
Albany Great Danes? basketball coach Will Brown, who had his starting backcourt poached by big-time schools (Villanova, Florida State) last summer

Friday?s quiz

Thursday?s quiz
Oklahoma City Thunder were the Seattle SuperSonics, before they moved to Oklahoma.

Wednesday?s quiz
TV analyst Bill Raftery used to be basketball coach at Seton Hall.

***********************

Friday?s List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here?..

13) Most guys in the NBA seem unhappy; they?re all getting paid a ton of money to play ball, but they don?t seem happy about it. It is a little sad. Hell, I?m almost 60 years old and I still shoot baskets now and then when the weather is nice.

Just once, ONCE, I want to hear the media quiz a player on trade speculation and have a guy say, ?You know what, I make 20 million bleeping dollars a year. As long as the direct deposit in my bank works, I?ll play anywhere, because this sport is making me freakin? rich!!!?

The honesty would be refreshing.

12) NBA trade deadline was Thursday; biggest news was probably Memphis trading Marc Gasol to the Raptors, as Eastern Conference teams jockey for position to make the NBA Finals, so they can lose to Golden State in five or six games.

Memphis did keep PG Mike Conley, which was a little surprising.

11) From Ramona Shelburne of ESPN:

?Today?s Lakers-Clippers trade is the first between the teams since 1983! Norm Nixon, Eddie Jordan and a 1986 2nd-round pick that became Jeff Hornacek went from the Lakers to the Clippers for Byron Scott, Swen Nater and a pick (Bruce Dalrymple)?

10) Star in the making on TV: former Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy is very good doing SEC basketball games on the ESPN family of networks. He is low-key funny, honest, knows his stuff and is humble.

Several years ago, when I used to go to the AAU Nationals in Orlando for a couple weeks every summer and watch games for 10-12 hours a day, I spent an afternoon sitting near Kennedy and listened to him talk about ball for a few hours. He wasn?t funny that day, but he is smart and I learned some interesting stuff. Glad he is on TV now.

9) Miami Marlins traded catcher JT Realmuto to Philadelphia for catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitching prospects Sixto Sanchez, Will Stewart, and an international bonus slot.

Realmuto is only 27, figures to be a big upgrade for the Phillies behind the plate.

8) Feel bad for the people who sell preseason preview magazines for baseball; with 120+ guys still unsigned, and Realmuto getting traded Thursday, the preview magazines aren?t going to be as informative as they usually are.

7) Major League Baseball will rename the disabled list the ?injured list?; it has been called the disabled list since 1966. It is a cosmetic change for now; the rules of it remain the same.

6) Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray will leave spring training with the A?s to attend the NFL Combine at the end of March; hopefully he?ll do really well and will give up his baseball dream and the A?s can save the $4.66M they unwisely promised him last summer.

5) St Francis, PA gets a 5pm tipoff game on ESPNU, and the team known as the Red Flash wears???black uniforms. Go figure.

4) Harrison Barnes was sitting on the Mavericks? bench Wednesday night when he found out he had been traded to Sacramento, which had to be at least a little awkward.

Kind of like a few years ago when a Mets fan told Wilmer Flores he was getting traded while Flores was in the on-deck circle- when he went out in the field the next inning, he had tears on his face, he didn?t want to get traded, and it turns out, he didn?t get traded. The fan was wrong.

3) Washington 67, Arizona 60? Wildcats lost four straight games in Pac-12 for first time in ten years; given all their off-court issues, Sean Miller?s job has to be in jeopardy.

2) Now that the NBA trade deadline has passed, Anthony Davis will be back in the lineup for the New Orleans Pelicans. Pelicans will probably have to trade him this summer.

1) RIP Frank Robinson 83, the great outfielder who is the only guy ever to win the MVP in both leagues, and was also the first African-American manager in the major leagues.

Friday's Tip Sheet
February 7, 2019
By Kevin Rogers

Saint Louis (-3, 132) at St. Joseph?s ? 7:00 PM EST ? ESPN2

These two Atlantic 10 squads meet for the second time this season and both matchups coincidentally were scheduled on a Friday night. In the first go-around last month, Saint Louis (15-8 SU, 8-14-1 ATS) held off St. Joseph?s (10-13 SU, 8-15 ATS) as eight-point home favorites, 68-57 to improve to 9-1 SU and 10-0 ATS in the past 10 matchups since February 2010.

The Billikens capped off a 5-0 start in A-10 play with that victory over St. Joe?s on January 18, but SLU went the wrong way over a two-week stretch by losing four consecutive games. Travis Ford?s team ended that skid in Tuesday?s 73-60 home triumph over Dayton, 73-60 to cash as two-point underdogs. The Billikens jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead, while five players scored in double-figures led by D.J. Foreman?s 18 points.

The Hawks began A-10 action by losing four straight games, including home favorite defeats to George Mason and George Washington. The first conference win for St. Joe?s came in surprising fashion by edging Davidson, 61-60 as 4 ?-point home underdogs on January 15. The Hawks are winless on the road inside the A-10 at 0-5, but Phil Martelli?s club has won three straight at home by a combined seven points.

Kent State at Akron (-4, 133) ? 9:00 PM EST ? ESPNU

Bowling Green (8-1 MAC) and Buffalo (7-2) are the top two teams in the Eastern division of the Mid-American Conference, as the next two teams in the standings hook up on Friday. Kent State (17-5 SU, 10-9-1 ATS) has lost at home to Bowling Green and Buffalo, but the Golden Flashes enter Friday?s action at 5-1 in the last six games. The Golden Flashes have won two of those games in overtime against Toledo and Ball State, while coming off a 70-67 home triumph over Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday as 4 ?-point favorites.

Akron (13-9 SU, 8-12 ATS) sits one game behind Kent State for third place in the East at 5-4, but the Zips have turned into pointspread poison in MACtion. In nine conference affairs, Akron has compiled a dreadful 1-8 ATS mark with the lone cover coming in last Saturday?s 12-point win at Ohio as a two-point underdog. The Zips have won all four home conference contests, but have failed to cash in those four victories, while riding a seven-game UNDER streak overall.

The Golden Flashes and Zips have yet to hook up this season as the home team won both matchups last season. Akron edged Kent State in the season finale, 67-65, while the UNDER hit for the sixth consecutive time in the series. The Golden Flashes own a solid 4-1-1 ATS record as a road underdog this season, which includes outright victories as a double-digit ?dog at Vanderbilt and Oregon State.

Ivy League Nuggets

-- The top two teams in the Ivy meet for a showdown in New Haven as Yale hosts Princeton. The Tigers (12-5 SU, 9-6 ATS) look to remain perfect in league play after starting 4-0 for the second time in three seasons. Two of those wins came in overtime against Penn and Cornell, while holding three Ivy opponents to 55 points or less in regulation. The Bulldogs (13-4 SU, 9-7 ATS) have yet to lose a home game this season at 6-0, but only one of those victories came in league action against Brown.

Yale has cashed in all three wins, with the lone blemish coming to rival Harvard in a 16-point road setback. Both matchups between Yale and Princeton reached overtime last season with the home team winning each time.

-- Both Penn and Brown have slumped to 1-3 records in Ivy League action through the first two month of league play. The Quakers (13-7 SU, 11-8 ATS) lost a pair of games to Princeton to tip off Ivy play, while finally breaking through the win column in last Saturday?s 72-70 victory at Columbia as 5 ?-point favorites.

The Bears (13-7 SU, 7-8-3 ATS) brought a six-game winning streak into conference play, but lost a home-and-home set to Yale, followed by a two-point triumph at Dartmouth. Brown was blown out the next day at Harvard, 68-47 but the Bears own a terrific 8-1 home mark this season.

-- The bottom four teams in the Ivy own 1-3 records in the league. Penn and Brown meet on Friday, while Columbia (6-12 SU, 7-8-1 ATS) tries to move towards the top half with a win over Harvard (10-7 SU, 8-8 ATS). The Lions have been competitive so far in Ivy action in spite of only one win as Columbia has lost by one point at Cornell and by two to Penn last Saturday. Columbia has covered in four of the last five opportunities as a road underdog, while splitting two meetings with Harvard last season.

The Crimson rebounded from an 18-point loss at Dartmouth to open Ivy play to win three straight games, all at home. Harvard failed to cover in the revenge win over Dartmouth, but the Crimson are coming off a pair of blowouts over Yale and Brown.

-- Dartmouth felt good about itself after blasting Harvard, 81-63 as 6 ?-point home underdogs on January 12. However, three losses later and the Big Green (10-10 SU, 8-7-3 ATS) is searching for answers after falling at home to Brown and Yale last weekend. Dartmouth welcomes in Cornell (10-10 SU, 8-10 ATS), who has alternated wins and losses in a 2-2 Ivy start.

The Big Red split a pair of close games with Columbia, followed by a nine-point triumph over Penn as 6 ?-point underdogs. However, Cornell fell short in overtime to Princeton last Saturday as the Big Red looks to continue its dominance of Dartmouth by winning the last four meetings.

Revenge Spots Aplenty

The month of February is a great time to be a college basketball fan/bettor, as there is a month or so of conference play already in the rear view mirror, and battles between rivals for conference supremacy really get ramped up.

This Saturday we've got plenty of the nation's best teams looking for revenge against a conference rival, as these ranked squads look to either even up or sweep the season series with their respective foes. So let's touch on a few of these games that should see plenty of betting action come Saturday.

No. 19 Wisconsin at No. 7 Michigan ? 12:00 p.m. ET

Michigan suffered their first loss of the year to the Badgers a few weeks back and likely haven't forgotten about it. The Wolverines closed as -3.5 favorites that day and will likely be laying a few more points than that here, and they'll need this one to try and further the distance between themselves and the rest of the Big 10. With Michigan winning the season series with trailing Purdue, and Michigan State stumbling as of late, knocking off the Badgers is a must here, as those three teams are really only the likely threats to the Wolverines going forward.

Wisconsin will feel confident coming into this one having already beaten the Wolverines, but I doubt their defense holds them down like they did in Madison. The 54 points Michigan put up that day was their fewest points scored in any game this year, and with Michigan's offense potentially getting back on track in a 77-65 win over Rutgers earlier this week, the task is going to be tough for the Badgers on Saturday.

Obviously, a lot depends on the point spread the oddsmakers put out here in trying to determine how many points feel like too many for Michigan to cover, but the home side is probably the only way to look here.

No. 5 Kentucky at No. 21 Mississippi State ? 1:00 p.m. ET

Another home side looking for revenge in this spot, as the Bulldogs fell 76-55 to Kentucky on January 22nd. Similar to Michigan, the 55 points Mississippi State scored in that game was their fewest points scored all year, and with the Bulldogs averaging 85.7 points per home game this year, chances are we see a much better performance from Mississippi State on Saturday.

The Bulldogs will need to be at or near their best, as Kentucky has won nine in a row entering this game and look the part of that blue blood program that everyone expects them to be each year. But this is the beginning of a tough stretch for the Wildcats ? LSU and Tennessee on deck ? and their 5-1 ATS record on the road likely has some regression waiting for it soon.

Revenge may be tougher to come by for the home side in this game, at least in terms of the straight up outcome, but going 'over' the total could be the better place to look, especially if Mississippi State brings their A game at home with them.

Florida at No. 11 Tennessee ? 4:00 p.m. ET

Another appearance for a SEC matchup here, although this time it's the visitors looking for redemption.

The Florida Gators have fallen on some hard times of late having lost three of four and sitting with a losing record (4-5 SU) in conference play, but one of the lasting images of this college basketball season so far was when this Tennessee squad beat the Gators (78-67) in the Swamp, and walked off the floor mockingly doing the ?Gator Chomp.? Tennessee needed a 2nd half comeback to pull out the win, and this all happened prior to the Volunteers being installed as the top team in the country.

Without question, Tennessee will have significant chalk attached to their name for this game, and as long as it's a reasonably ?fair? number, I believe you've got to take the points with the Gators. Situationally, Florida's players haven't forgotten about that disrespect they were shown, and with the struggles Florida's recently had, they may even be catching a few more points than they arguably should be in this spot.

There will be nothing sweeter for Gators fans than to be the team that goes into Knoxville and knocks Tennessee off their #1 perch, and halting the Volunteers 17-game winning streak as well. Winning outright may be a bit of a stretch for Florida, but they'd be the only point spread side I'd look towards.

No. 2 Duke at No. 3 Virginia ? 6:00 p.m. ET

This is the big game on the board as it's Virginia in the revenge role after losing 72-70 to Duke a few weeks back. A #2 vs #3 game is always going to get boatloads of hype and this game ? like the first one ? is no different. And while I do expect the Cavaliers to find themselves in the favorite role (possibly pick'em), it's not the side I'd all that anxious to get involved with; it's the total.

The first game saw the total open up at 140/140.5 before basically a flood of early 'under' money pushed that number way down. The total spent most of the early morning that day bouncing back and forth between 137 and 139, before 'under' money continued to come in and have the total hold steady at 136 for basically the rest of the day. Just before tip, there was some late 'over' action on the 136, and thanks to a Virginia jumper with three seconds left in a four-point game, that bucket ended up cashing any and all 'over' tickets, as well as giving Virginia the cover.

But from a game flow perspective, the 'under' was the more correct side throughout the game, as there were 17 points scored in the final 1:09 of that game, as Virginia had to resort to playing the foul game to try and catch up. Those 17 points also included four missed free throws in that span, so the result could have ended up going 'over' with a little less sweat.

However, with the rematch coming on Virginia's floor this weekend and the Cavaliers likely being the ones able to dictate the pace more often, I do believe going low and grabbing that number early is the way to attack this game from a betting perspective.

Virginia is 1-3 O/U in conference home games this year, and only one team ? the run-and-gun Marshall Thundering Herd - has put up more than 59 points on Virginia in any home game this year. Duke may be loaded with NBA-caliber talent, but this team still can't shoot from the outside, struggles from the charity stripe, and has been a great 'under' bet as it is all year (5-15 O/U).

If we see similar support for the 'under' like we saw in the first meeting, I believe those bettors will be able to head to the pay window this time, and it'll be one total I'm looking to jump on rather early.

13) After spreading lot of rumors to the contrary this week, turns out that Major League Baseball has no plans to adopt a universal DH before the 2022 season, which is disappointing.

This collective bargaining agreement ends in three years; the DH will apparently be a bargaining chip in the next CBA. Too bad it couldn?t be put into place sooner.

12) Gonzaga won its first nine WCC games by n average of 29.2 ppg, the biggest average margin of victory in a team?s first nine conference games over the last 21 years.

11) Pac-12 is having a dismal basketball season, right now, Washington is 10-0 in conference, with the next eight teams in the standings all either 6-4 or 5-5.

Pac-12 has slipped below the AAC in conference ratings; Washington is the only Pac-12 team with a shot at an at-large bid. Pac-12 is a one-bid league if Washington wins Pac-12 tourney, and maybe even a one-bid league no matter what if the Huskies stumble down the stretch.

10) Front office of the New Orleans Pelicans think the Lakers were tampering with Anthony Davis, so they purposely jerked the Lakers around in trade talks the last two weeks, never intending to send their star player to LA, at least not to the Lakers.

We?ll see if the Pelicans cut off their own nose to spite their face; can they can get a better deal for Davis from another team?

9) Kansas basketball star Lagerald Vick is taking a leave of absence for unsaid reasons, but its not good news for a Jayhawk squad that lost four of its last six games.

8) Eight NHL games went to overtime Thursday night, the most ever in one day.

7) Former Texas Longhorn QB Shane Buechele is leaving the Longhorns and will transfer to SMU, where he will be eligible to play next season.

6) Friday, the NCAA approved a waiver that allows sophomore transfer quarterback Justin Fields to play right away for Ohio State. Fields played as a true freshman at Georgia in 2018 and transferred to the Buckeyes in January following bowl season.

5) NCAA basketball conferences that are playing the fastest tempo:
Atlantic Sun, Ohio Valley, Sun Belt, Southern Conference

Slowest tempos:
Missouri Valley, Colonial, America East, Big West

4) NCAA basketball conferences that are making highest %age of 3?s:
Summit, Southern Conference, Sun Belt, Big West

Lowest %age of 3?s made:
Ivy League, Atlantic 14, MEAC, SWAC

3) NCAA basketball conferences that are making highest %age of foul shots:
Summit, CAA, Horizon, Big East

Lowest %age of FT?s made:
SWAC, MEAC, Ivy, Big West

2) NCAA basketball conferences with highest home court win %:
SWAC, AAC, Big X, Big South

Lowest home court win %:
Big West, MEAC, Big Sky/SEC.

1) NCAA basketball conferences with highest %age of close games:
Lowest %age of close games:
Mountain West, Pac-12, Atlantic Sun, ACC

Duke at Virginia
February 8, 2019
By Brian Edwards

Round 2 (of probably three and maybe even four?) of the Duke-Virginia men?s basketball rivalry in 2018-19 will take place Saturday in Charlottesville at John Paul Jones Arena. As of late Friday afternoon, several offshore books had Virginia (20-1 straight up, 16-5 against the spread) installed as a two-point favorite with a total of 136.

When these teams met at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham on Jan. 19, Duke (20-2 SU, 14-8 ATS) captured a 72-70 win but failed to cover the number as a four-point home favorite. The 142 combined points went ?over? the 136-point total even thought there were only 127 combined points 69 seconds remaining. The side could?ve gone either way, too, as UVA got the backdoor cover thanks to a bucket with three ticks left.

R.J. Barrett led the way with 30 points, five rebounds and three assists compared to only one turnover. Zion Williamson made 10-of-16 field-goal attempts and finished with 27 points, nine rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot. Cam Reddish contributed nine points, eight boards and a pair of steals.

UVA sophomore De?Andre Hunter had 18 points and four rebounds on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome scored 14 points apiece, but they combined to make only 3-of-12 attempts from 3-point range. The Cavs hit only 3-of-17 (17.6%) shots from downtown, although they made 52.8 percent of their overall FGAs.

Duke had a 30-27 edge in the rebounding department. The Blue Devils went to the free-throw line 31 times compared to 17 trips to the stripe for UVA.

Since hooking up its betting supporters with 10 consecutive spread covers, Tony Bennett?s squad has failed to cover in back-to-back games after beating Miami 56-46 as an 18-point home ?chalk? this past Saturday. Hunter led the way with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, a pair of steals and one blocked shot. Kamari Diakite finished with 11 points, six boards and three blocks, while Kyle Guy contributed 10 points, four rebounds and three assists without a turnover. The Cavaliers dominated the glass with a 40-23 rebounding advantage over UM.

UVA is ranked No. 1 in the nation in scoring defense (52.9 points per game) and at defending the 3-point line (24.7%). The Cavs are third nationally in field-goal percentage defense, forcing foes to make merely 37.0 percent of their shots. They aren?t too shabby at the other end, either, ranking 14th in the country in 3-point accuracy (39.5%), 19th in free-throw percentage (76.1%) and 39th in FG percentage (47.7%).

Hunter, who went down with an injury late in last year?s regular season and didn?t play in his team?s unprecedented 1/16 loss in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, is averaging a team-best 14.7 PPG. Hunter averages 5.4 RPG, has a 47/24 assist-to-turnover ratio, makes 52.9 percent of his FGAs and 43.2 percent of his 3-pointers.

Guy (14.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG) has a 44/26 assist-to-turnover ratio, hits 43.8 percent of his trifectas and 85.4 percent of his FTAs. Jerome (13.0 PPG) is burying 40.6 percent of his downtown launches and has a stellar 99/33 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Virginia is undefeated in 11 home games with an 8-3 spread record. The Cavs are 6-1 ATS in seven games as single-digit favorites, 2-0 ATS in pair of single-digit home ?chalk? situations.

UVA is ranked No. 1 at KenPom.com, compiling a 7-1 record against K-Pom Top 50 opponents. The Cavs are 13-1 against the Top 100.

Duke and UVA are in a three-way tie with North Carolina for first place in the ACC standings with 8-1 records. This trio holds a one-game edge over Louisville, which is a short road underdog (+2.5) at FSU. UVA has won seven of its nine ACC games by double-digit margins.

Duke has won outright in all four of its true road games while posting a 3-1 spread record. The Blue Devils have had less prep time for UVA since they had to play on Tuesday, beating Boston College 80-55 as 24-point home favorites. The 135 combined points dropped ?under? the 158-point total. Mike Krzyzewski?s team trailed BC 30-28 at intermission before covering in front-door fashion by taking its only 25-point lead with about a minute remaining.

Reddish went 8-of-16 from the field and scored a game-high 24 points. Barrett had 19 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists, while Williamson produced 16 points, 17 rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocked shots. Tre Jones added 11 points, five rebounds, one rejection and three assists without a turnover.

Since losing in overtime at home to Syracuse on Jan. 14 when Jones left the game early in the first half with an injured shoulder and Reddish was ?out? sick, Duke has won six straight games and gone 4-1 ATS its last five times out. The last five victories have come by 13 points or more, including a 91-61 home win over St. John?s last Saturday. (The Red Storm bounced back and won at Marquette 72 hours later.)

Williamson torched the Johnnies by making 13-of-17 FGAs in a 29-point effort. The freshman sensation also had six rebounds, five steals and a pair of rejections, while Barrett added 15 points and 14 boards.

This is only Duke?s second (and probably last) underdog spot of the season. In their opener at Banker Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis back on Nov. 6, the Blue Devils humbled Kentucky by a 118-84 count as 2.5-point ?dogs. Barrett, Williamson and Reddish scored 33, 28 and 22 points, respectively, in their collegiate debuts.

Barrett is averaging 23.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Williamson (22.0 PPG, 2.0 BPG) is averaging team-highs in rebounding (9.4 RPG), steals (2.1 SPG) and FG percentage (68.2%). Reddish is scoring at a 13.5 PPG clip, while Marques Bolden (5.7 PPG, 4.8 RPG) leads the Blue Devils in blocked shots (46, 2.1 BPG). Jones (8.4 PPG) has an incredible 110/23 assist-to-turnover ratio and 39 steals.

Duke is ranked fourth in the country in scoring with its 87.0 PPG average. The Blue Devils rank No. 21 nationally in FG percentage (48.6%), but they struggle from 3-point land (#317 nationally, 30.8%). They defend at a high level as well, ranking sixth in the nation in FG-percentage defense (38.2%) and ninth at defending the 3-point line (28.8%). Duke is 38th nationally in scoring ?D? (65.2 PPG).

Duke is No.2 at K-Pom, going 8-2 versus the Top 50 and 13-2 against the Top 100.

Since Duke?s win over UVA saw the ?over? hit, the ?under? has been a winner in each of its past five games. The ?under? is 15-5-2 overall for the Blue Devils, 3-0-1 in their road assignments.

The ?under? has cashed in back-to-back UVA games to improve to 12-9 overall and 7-4 in its home games.

Tip-off on ESPN is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Eastern.

B.E.?s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Washington won its 12th straight game, covered the spread for the 10th consecutive time and remained unbeaten in Pac-12 play with Thursday?s 67-60 win at Arizona as a 2.5-point underdog. The Huskies hooked up money-line backers with a +125 return. Noah Dickerson (ankle) was a game-time decision and didn?t start, but he contributed 10 points and three rebounds in 26 minutes of playing time. Mike Hopkins? squad plays Saturday at Arizona State. The Sun Devils are desperate for a win here, especially after seeing their resume decimated by Thursday?s 91-70 loss to Washington State as 15-point home favorites.

-- Speaking of the Cougars, let?s give a shout out to one of the nation?s most underrated players, Robert Franks. The Washington State big man was downright nasty against the Sun Devils, erupting for 34 points, 13 rebounds, four steals, four blocked shots and two assists. Nate Ellery nearly had a triple-double for the Cougars, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

-- Looking for an under-the-radar squad that could be heard from in March and, most importantly for our purposes, is cashing tickets galore? We introduce you to the Hofstra Pride, the owners of a 20-4 SU record and an 18-5 ATS mark. After an overtime loss at VCU on Nov. 24, Hofstra won 16 games in a row until falling last Saturday at Northeastern (a team that won by double digits at Harvard, beat Alabama by 16 on a neutral court and only lost by three at Hofstra). The Pride bounced back in Thursday?s 102-61 win over Elon as an 18-point home favorite. Hofstra, which is 11-3 ATS in its past 14 outings, will host William & Mary on Saturday. The Pride is led by senior guard Justin Wright-Foreman, who averages 25.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He?s making 51.1 percent of his FGAs, 41.4 percent of his launches from downtown and 87.8 percent of his FTAs. Wright-Foreman scored at a 24.4 PPG clip last season and averaged 18.1 PPG as a sophomore.

-- The injury notes below were all from late Friday afternoon, so you?ll obviously want to check these for updates on Saturday morning. Let?s start with Colgate?s Jordan Burns, who averages 17.4 points, 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 SPG. He?s ?questionable? against Loyola-Maryland due to a leg injury.

-- Creighton guard Ty-Shon Alexander (knee) is ?questionable? at Seton Hall. Alexander averages 17.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 APG. The Pirates and Bluejays will collide at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the CBS Sports Network.

-- Baylor?s Makai Mason (foot) is ?questionable? for a home game vs. Kansas State. Mason averages 16.1 points and 3.0 APG for the Bears, who saw their six-game winning streak both SU and ATS snapped in Wednesday?s 84-72 loss at Texas. The Wildcats are in first place in the Big 12 with their 7-2 record. Iowa State is one-half game back at 7-3, while Baylor is one game behind at 6-3. Texas Tech and Kansas are 6-4 in Big 12 action.

-- Speaking of the Jayhawks, their quest to win a 15th straight Big 12 regular-season championship is in even greater danger after yesterday?s news that Lagerald Vick is not going be around for at least a few games. ?Lagerald has some personal matters that require his immediate attention and he will be taking a leave of absence from our team,? KU head coach Bill Self said in a statement released by the school. ?During this time, we will respect Lagerald?s privacy. There?s no timetable for his return.? Vick, the starting senior guard, is averaging 14.1 points and 4.0 RPG while draining 45.5 percent of his 3-balls. Without Vick?s threat from the perimeter, KU star Dedric Lawson is going to be getting double-teamed on nearly every touch. Making matters even worse, Marcus Garrett (ankle) is ?doubtful? vs. Oklahoma State. KU will host the Cowboys at noon Eastern on ESPN.

-- Auburn?s Jared Harper (ankle) has been upgraded from ?questionable? to ?probable? for Saturday?s SEC showdown at LSU. Bruce Pearl?s team has struggled mightily on the road, going 1-4 both SU and ATS in five road assignments. LSU is 11-1 SU and 5-7 ATS at home. Auburn has had an extra day of prep time after dropping Florida 76-62 an eight-point home favorite Tuesday. Meanwhile, LSU responded to its first loss in SEC play at home to Arkansas on Saturday by going into Starkville and winning in overtime Wednesday behind Herculean efforts from Tremont Waters and Naz Reid. Offshore books opened LSU at -1.5 late Friday afternoon, but I believe that number will be higher in a few hours (and on Saturday morning, obviously).

-- Florida is winless and 1-6 ATS in seven games as an underdog this year. Mike White?s team is also mired in a 0-5 ATS slump. Although UF is 12-10, it?s still in the hunt for an at-large berth but must start picking up some key wins. This is obviously a great opportunity Saturday at top-ranked Tennessee, which opened offshore as an 11-point home favorite. This is the richest ?dog spot of the season for Florida for the second straight game.

-- Alabama, currently on the good/right side of the bubble according to most bracketology gurus, can?t afford a bad loss at Vanderbilt. The Crimson Tide opened -2 at offshore books. Vandy remains winless in SEC play and is an abysmal 4-9 ATS in its past 13 games. The ?over? is 4-1 for the Commodores in their last five contests. The ?over? is 14-7 overall for ?Bama, but the ?under? is 4-3 in its road games and has cashed at a 5-2 rate in its past seven outings. The total was 143.5 points on the send-out.

-- As I?ve noted multiple times over the last week and change, Nebraska is at the top of my Fade List right now. The Cornhuskers, who are mired in a 0-6 slump both SU and ATS and have looked awful since losing Isaac Copeland to season-ending ACL tear, opened as 10-point underdogs at Purdue.

-- Troy?s Jordon Varnado (indeed, the younger brother of former Mississippi State shot-blocking king Jarvis) is ?questionable? against Arkansas State. Varnado averages 21.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 blocked shots per game.
