Will Venus win DOHA WTA Championships?
Yes +260
Hard to find any reason to believe we will not see another clash of the sisters in the finals this year. Venus will face Jankovic, while Serena plays Wozniacki for a place in the final. Wozniacki has played nothing short of miraculous in fighting off heat, injury and cramps all week to progress to this stage. But she was severely outclassed by Jankovic today, who broke twice in the first set and quickly opened up a 4-0 lead in the second set. Serena should have little trouble progressing if she has to take the court at all.
Jankovic is saying all the right things entering tomorrows semifinal against Venus.
"I wanted to reach the semi-finals and I didn't want to get into long rallies with Caroline," said Jankovic, who admitted she had let herself down in her opening defeat to Azarenka.
"I only arrived on Sunday from Moscow where it was very cold and here it's very hot. It takes time to get used to the conditions. It was a bad day against Victoria.
"But in tournaments like these it's important how you finish, not how you start."
I do not, however, have any read as to how Jankovic is playing this week. She played VERY poorly in her first match and barely broke a sweat before Safina retired two games in. Wozniacki is clearly a wounded duck and credit Jankovic for doing what both Azarenka and Zvonereva failed to do. That is, keeping points short and not allowing Caroline to hang around.
Assuming both Venus and Serena advance, they will meet for the fifth time in 2009 with Serena having won three of those four, including the last three. Just like with Sveta and Dementieva earlier, I find it hard to believe that Venus will lose four straight matches to her younger sister. Just a gut feeling as Venus is by no means a lock to get by Jankovic, yet if she does +260 is a very nice price for a toss-up between the sisters.
