WTA Doha - Friday

Kuznetsova +180 OVER Dementieva

I am not entirely confident that Svetlana will win this match, but these odds seem too good to pass up. She has not been stellar in this format throughout her career, but she does hold a 6-4 h2h edge in this matchup. One cannot be faulted for losing close matches to each of the Williams sisters. While nobody would debate that Elena is an elite player, she is just 3-7 in her last 10 against players in the top 10, including a loss earlier this year to Svetlana. I feel that if these two met on day one this would be closer to +125 for Kuz, so why not take a shot with her at +180.

Bang! Winner Winner Turkey Dinner.
You strike again - excellent analysis and way to spot the value play today.
Well done sir. Well done.

Will Venus win DOHA WTA Championships?

Yes +260

Hard to find any reason to believe we will not see another clash of the sisters in the finals this year. Venus will face Jankovic, while Serena plays Wozniacki for a place in the final. Wozniacki has played nothing short of miraculous in fighting off heat, injury and cramps all week to progress to this stage. But she was severely outclassed by Jankovic today, who broke twice in the first set and quickly opened up a 4-0 lead in the second set. Serena should have little trouble progressing if she has to take the court at all.

Jankovic is saying all the right things entering tomorrows semifinal against Venus.

"I wanted to reach the semi-finals and I didn't want to get into long rallies with Caroline," said Jankovic, who admitted she had let herself down in her opening defeat to Azarenka.

"I only arrived on Sunday from Moscow where it was very cold and here it's very hot. It takes time to get used to the conditions. It was a bad day against Victoria.

"But in tournaments like these it's important how you finish, not how you start."

I do not, however, have any read as to how Jankovic is playing this week. She played VERY poorly in her first match and barely broke a sweat before Safina retired two games in. Wozniacki is clearly a wounded duck and credit Jankovic for doing what both Azarenka and Zvonereva failed to do. That is, keeping points short and not allowing Caroline to hang around.

Assuming both Venus and Serena advance, they will meet for the fifth time in 2009 with Serena having won three of those four, including the last three. Just like with Sveta and Dementieva earlier, I find it hard to believe that Venus will lose four straight matches to her younger sister. Just a gut feeling as Venus is by no means a lock to get by Jankovic, yet if she does +260 is a very nice price for a toss-up between the sisters.

One down, one to go.

Venus defeated Jelena Jankovic 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

And then there were two.

There was a nice article in The Guardian regarding the year end championships and how the conditions have taken a toll on these women.

Oh and kick, I take it you didn't enjoy this one so much then, either.

Nice job Wayne
hope you hit the big plus money
I hate it when these two play....I think they determine who is gonna win beforehand....maybe I am naive....but look at history....they are almost even I think in matches won....they rotate....so it should be Venus' turn

Ghost, I tend to disagree with that line of thinking. Venus is such a professional in everything she does, on the court and off. No matter what they say or do, many people believe that the result is predetermined. This is ridiculous. That would be along the same lines as some of the betting scandals that have given the sport a black mark. I truly believe it is every Williams for herself once the ball is in the air.

And kick, I'm sorry for the pics. Here is something to make it up to you. Although, I thought Serena looked quite nice in that spread for ESPN.

Wayne, not trying to be a prick but I can tell you for a fact, yes a fact that the above statement is not close to true. I have seen with my own eyes what the Williams sisters have done. Venus is far far far from "professional". If you knew some of the shit these two pull "behind the scenes" you would vomit. These two have got a bit better with some of the shit, but trust me when I tell you they are far far far from "professional". And as for fixing the result, yes they have pre-determined who wins. Now, no, 5-7 years ago, yes. And what I am saying is not news. I could get you names in ITF/ATP/WTA that would back up what I am telling you. Of course it would be "off the record". Let's put it this way, there is "in front of the camera" and "behind the camera".

I could go on and on but I won't. Will the Venus/Serena future matches be pre-determined, no. Are these two sisters "fake" and "bitches", yes. Oh and far from professional.

Oh and I have always been a Jennifer Love H fan:142hump: :142hump:

and oh yeah....nice picking:)

Way to show up Gonzo...:sadwave:

As I have said many times before, this seems to always happen to me when I lay heavy favorites. That is why I almost never do. Lesson learned.
