"Natural" comes from nature. Is procreation equated with "natural"? Ever see two animals of the same sex go at it? Ever have rover hump your leg? I don't think you can equate the ability to make children as the definition of "natural".

I'm not a historian but, I thought that in ancient Greece (Sparta to be exact), gay was the way. The only time King Leonitis and Tony Curtis were poppin babes was when they needed more baby soldiers. Otherwise they were snuggling up to there favorite lieutenant on the shores of the Adriatic near Thermopole. Those werent spears under their skirts.

So, back in old Sparta, it seems the natural way of doing things was to bag a boy. By the way, DrChristo where is Oz? Over the rainbow. I do like your perspective from whereever Oz is. Don't you guys think the French are laughing real hard at these draconian idiots running this country for muliple reasons such as the lack of WMD's (weapons of mass destruction) and the angst about WMD's (woman marrying dykes).

Mr. Haskell,

I'm not sure exactly who you are referring to in you post with the Greeks, but I did read just last week that historians generally agree that Alexander the Great was a fan of man, so to speak.

Mr. Finste:

Referring to the historical fact that the Spartans preferred men and the only time they were with women was when they needed to procreate. So, in Spartan society the "natural" and accepted way to live was with the same sex.

Respectfully,

Mr. Haskell

Eddie, I think that virginity in women was highly prized for marriage in that society. So, to help ease the cravings of the young men, it was considered ok for them to have relations with each other.

Homosexuality is far from new, it's been around a long, long time. Like some have said here, I don't really care what a couple of guys do behind their closed doors, but I sure hope my kids never see displays of affection between 2 men, and I certainly don't think marriage can involve 2 people of the same sex.

bjfin, I think marriage is a social/custom thing that is endorsed by religions and performed in religious settings by those who choose to do it that way.

There has been much talk here about two guys getting it on. And most say yuck. But how about two good looken hot dolls. I say on what channel. I when walking down the street. I see a nice chick and my old mind wonders. Ya I like to due that one. I wonder do gays of the world when walking down the street eye some other same sex person up and say. Ya I like to due that one. If they do there getting very clsoe to normal America. Only thing that gets me sad. Some those chicks are really hot and you dont have a chance. It is funny when a guy is after some chick. The last question on his mind is. Are you gay.
What Bush wants to do is a cover up. This admendment thing sound good. Sounds like election year BS. Why? It will Never get out of congress. Just like the last 5 admendments for differant items have died. They discuss beat there chest. Then never vote. Or vote come up short and shelve them.

Prof. Haskell. Oz = Australia mate. :D

sixfive: What about male/female marriages that aren't performed under 'religious settings'.
I was in a wedding only 3 weeks ago where the couple were married on the Bride's grandparents' property. (With an amazing view I might add!).
They are not religious, and that is what they chose. Are they then not married in your eyes?

I was wondering how long it would take for the religious angle to appear.
I probably should bow out about now, as we here 'over the rainbow!' don't really care much for religion. (At least, nowhere near as much as everyone else sems to!).

If people stopped worrying about how things looked 'through the eyes of god' and started using their own minds to make informed/logical/rational decisions then the world would be a much, much better place. (just my opinion of course).

hoops quote:"I was very happy to see the Mayor of San Fran tell Bush to fuk off yesterday."

as i stated previously i don't have an opinion on this subject.

but, we are a nation of laws. the mayor of frisco & every other elected official across this country are supposed to uphold the laws & not defy it. if the law states that they are not supposed to have these marriages, then they should not have these marriages. it's pretty simple.

steps should be taken, who feel this law is not right, to peacefully change the law.

CTG, I love the guy what you mean. Just trying to help him stick with what he told us he was going to do. This was not one of the hot tickets. Anyway this is more about other subjects if you read close. And how long for it all to pass. I believe I gave a estimate in my first page. Seems all bad and good things happen even if you and I dont like or like them. Like not haveing a voice. The special interest groups will take care of everything. Soon we won't need congress at all. Read my last remarks. Are you not able to walk down the street and see some chick and say not bad. And would it not be true you dont care at that time if she is a gay. If you dont know it. Or are you going to tell us here you rather check out the guys.
Keep in mind this means Dick Cheneys daughter can not get married. Has any one asked Dick how he feals about that. Just another reason Bush needs to drop him for next 4 years. Or is it his dughters fault she is gay.

Being the somewhat conservative ass that I am, I am simply torn on this issue. I think most of the reason that I am against gay marriages is for selfish reasons. When gay marriage is allowed, you can kiss our health insurance goodbye. Does that mean they shouldn't be allowed? Probably not. I have a couple of gay family members, and I do think that their rights are a little hampered by not being able to marry. I also know several (5-6) gay people that can't wait for marriage to be allowed simply for the benefits (otherwise they wouldn't care to be married to that person).

So, this right leaner is torn on this subject because I think it will be severely abused, but I do think that if they are ready to commit to one person for the remainder of their life then they should be entitled to legally.

Whoever brought up the hyprocasy of watching TV shows such as Will & Grace then chastising the whole act hit the nail on the head. I never understood this.

I remember when my dad would piss and moan about how every show on television was about black people (there may hvae been two at the time--The Cosby Show and one other), but he watched it and laughed his ass off every night. Very hypocritcal.

mr christo, u must not have good reading comprehension. I didn't say marriage was a religious thing, I said it was a social/custom thing that is also ENDORSED by religions. I think every religion endorses the marriage between a man and a woman as this is the way it has always been. Of course, a man and a woman who are married I consider married if they had a legal ceremony, Justice of the Peace, bonded minister, captain of a boat, whatever else is legal by law. Also, Mr. Christo, I didn't bring up any religious angle, I was asked that by bjfinste. Try reading more carefully next time before you go on a leftist rant.

Leftist rant!!!!!!!!

Would have thought I was far from ranting, but there you go.

I didn't suggest you did bring up the religious angle, SixFive. You might notice the blank line between my question to you (and that's all it was) and the statement on religion.
And, I can assure you there is nothing wrong with my reading or comprehension; despite some of the grammer and spelling in this place.

but I sure hope my kids never see displays of affection between 2 men, and I certainly don't think marriage can involve 2 people of the same sex.

While I freely admit I don't have children and so am not exactly 'qualified' in the area, I really don't understand the paranoia. I would think (and definately be more worried about) children seeing many worse things in our society.
Violence on TV (both shows, and reality on the news), violence in the movies, violence in music, war....video games...the list goes on.
I don't particularly 'want' to see 2 guys kissing either, but it sure as hell isn't going to make me run over there and join them!! Nor will I have nightmares about it, nor will it scar me for life!
I definately don't want to see two fat, unattractive people going at it in the street either, but no-one seems to be concerned about that!!!

Debating whether it is natural or now seems to be be inconlusive here. Only thing I can say to each his own and if it feels natural to you--Go for it--but I'll pass just the same, thank you.:tongue

Rosie O'Donnell to Marry Girlfriend

SAN FRANCISCO - Former talk show host Rosie O'Donnell (news) planned to marry her longtime girlfriend Thursday in San Francisco, where more than 3,300 other same-sex couples have tied the knot since Feb. 12.

The couple was flying to San Francisco from New York Thursday morning, said Cindi Berger, O'Donnell's publicist.

"We, too, have a dream of equality for all families," the comedian said in a statement. "The only way changes are made in society is when people like Mayor Gavin Newsom have the courage to stand up against injustice."

Earlier Thursday, O'Donnell announced her planned wedding to Kelli Carpenter on ABC's "Good Morning America," just two days after President Bush (news - web sites) called for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

She said the president's call is what inspired her to come to San Francisco, where city officials continue to perform same-sex weddings even as state courts are considering the legality of those marriages.

"I think the actions of the president are, in my opinion, the most vile and hateful words ever spoken by a sitting president," O'Donnell said on the program. "I am stunned and I'm horrified.

"I find this proposed amendment very, very, very, very shocking. And immoral. And, you know, if civil disobedience is the way to go about change, then I think a lot of people will be going to San Francisco. And I hope they put more people on the steps to marry as many people as show up. And I hope everyone shows up."

O'Donnell said she decided to marry Carpenter, a former dancer and marketing director at Nickelodeon, during her recent trial in New York over the now-defunct Rosie magazine.

"We applied for spousal privilege and were denied it by the state. As a result, everything that I said to Kelli, every letter that I wrote her, every e-mail, every correspondence and conversation was entered into the record," O'Donnell said. "After the trial, I am now and will forever be a total proponent of gay marriage."

++++++++LOL!!! Me neither++++++++

+++++++I would be opposed to that as well. I think it's ok to handhold, briefly kiss (I'm talking less than a second), hug, and pat on the butt, but anything else is too much in public.

This one time at a club while I was in college, I told this chick that she was a dead ringer for Rosanne Barr, (she was! she wasn't as fat, but she was a chunky monkey and her face was an exact match) and she dumped a full pitcher of beer over my head. Not only was that embarrassing, but the walk home was miserable. It was freezing out and the beer was sticky. That sucked.

lol- come to think of it, I do recall that she was hanging off the arm of this dweebie looking guy that went about 5'1", 110lbs with a very scruffy wisp of a moustache who was wearing a foam baseball hat that said, 'Guns don't kill people, people kill people'. And I have no idea what his shirt was all about. While a lot of us were sporting cool 'Frankie Say Relax' t-shirts, his t-shirt read, 'Let's all rise for the Lord's Prayer'. Who wears that to a club?
