Most woman don't care much for the truth.

I wonder if you had told her she looked like Raquel Welsh if she would have gone home and did the nasty with you.

Harry Chapin wrote a song once about a rotund waitress.

" I wish that I was beautiful or that you were half way blind,
And I wish I wernt so god damn fat and I wish that you were mine. And I wish that you'd come with me, when I leave to go.
For we both know all about emptiness and living all alone.

and if you want me to come with you then thats all right with me
for I am going no where and anywheres a better place to be."

Sixfive: I'm sure you can forgive me one spelling mistake at 4.30 in the morning.

would be opposed to that as well. I think it's ok to handhold, briefly kiss (I'm talking less than a second), hug, and pat on the butt, but anything else is too much in public.

Genious! Not only are we cleansing the streets, I think you've just solved the unemployment problem too!
Citites will have to employ a whole new police force, the PDA [Public Display of Affection] Police!
They'll be out with their stop watches to ensure that NO kiss in public lasts more than 1 second. They should have measuring tapes too to make sure no two males' butts are withing 2 inches of each other when seated, and when two females are talking their lips get no closer than the same two inches.

People don't give children enough credit, IMO. They are a whole lot smarter/perceptive than most of us give them credit for. ***
Like it or not, your children are going to grow up and form their own opinions. Much like you have diferent views than your father, and I have diferent views than mine.
You might not see this as a good thing, but as was said way back in this thread, it's how the world moves on.
Can you imagine if we'd all been forced to tread the same straight and narrow path through life as our parents for the past 200 years?

(Not suggesting that this is the case with anyone here, but how do you think the 'cycle' of prejudice/ignorance keeps going? Parents who don't like gays/black people/jews, pepole who don't respect women etc....It's drummed into the childs head from birth, because that's all they are told....And on it goes.

*** As I said, I have no children, but have watched my GF's niece and nephew grow up for the last 4 years. (Now they are 10-11). They are not particularly bright, or above average, but I can assure you that there isn't much that goes on that they miss! They definately have minds of their own.

Anyway, obviously we all have different views. I have a couple of gay friends and simply don't understand why they shouldn't be able to do whatever a 'man and woman' can. (Not just marriage, but everything in life!).
None of it makes any sense to me at all. The hypocrasy, the 'it's ok behind closed doors' mentality.
Just have to be happy (relieved?) I'm a white/straight/educated
male in his 20's I guess....This world panders to my needs. :toast:

lol- come to think of it, I do recall that she was hanging off the arm of this dweebie looking guy that went about 5'1", 110lbs with a very scruffy wisp of a moustache who was wearing a foam baseball hat that said, 'Guns don't kill people, people kill people'. And I have no idea what his shirt was all about. While a lot of us were sporting cool 'Frankie Say Relax' t-shirts, his t-shirt read, 'Let's all rise for the Lord's Prayer'. Who wears that to a club?

Seriously.... just funny as hell!!!!

MrChristo, u brought up the spelling and then spelled grammar wrong in the same sentence. That just struck me as funny.

I never said there should be a PDA police, just something I'm not in favor of seeing.

Children are tough and resilient, I will agree with you, and I also wholeheartedly agree that they pick up on way more than you thing they do. Still, that doesn't mean that they should be exposed to some things, and if I can prevent that while I have charge of them, I'm going to do it. I'm not raising robots, I encourage my kids to think for themselves.

At least back 200 years ago, everybody had a solid work ethic, and that's a huge thing we miss in today's world.

I would also argue that the world today "panders" to special interest and minority (not race) groups and not young white males.

I was taught that I could do anything and be anybody I wanted to be as a child, and that's what I teach my children. My daughter has to act like a young lady, say "yes ma'am" and "no sir" etc., and my 4 year old son already is holding the door open for people of the female persuasion. Good old values like that we miss in general in today's society. Women are shocked nowadays if a stranger or any man holds the door open for them and they seem to feel obligated to thank you for that.

On the course!
Sixfive, nice retort. (....and I see you didn't comment on "grammer" king's "Genious" error!)

Kid's are putty, in that they are molded. They are like sponges, in that they soak up the things they are around. Too many parents feel like you do, Christo. "Let the kid grow up on his own!" Well, with that, you get the mess this country is in currently.

If I tell my kid to feed herself every meal, do you think she's going to make a salad, or have a dish of ice cream? Most people will try to get their children to follow their footsteps. Why? Because we all assume our way is the best, or at the least, it is "what we know". Well educated, hard working stiffs tend to have offspring that turn out the same way. Criminals who tend to steal rather than work, have kids that follow that trend.

Morality police? Shit man! Bring em on! We are a rapidly declining society in the US, and frankly.......it sucks. The kids suck, because mom and dad suck. This whole thread started over gay marriages. It still holds that marriage is a "holy bond" between a man and a woman. That's right.......as in CHURCH. Well, the idea of religion is a whole other can of worms, but the god fearin' folk out there are still aplenty! There comes a time when you take, take, take, and sooner or later, someone says, "No more!" This might just be that line.

"Can you imagine if we'd all been forced to tread the same straight and narrow path through life as our parents for the past 200 years?"

Yeah......in many ways, we would be better off! As 65 said, at least there was a work ethic back then! People respected each other a little more, too, I would imagine. Today, it's me, me ,me. That extends to the immediate family, as well. "Fend for yourself.....I got a party to go to."

Let kid's think for themselves? Only to an extent. You STILL have to be a parent, and we are rapidly losing that ability. High rate of teen pregos? Well, maybe if mommy and daddy didn't let the kids walk their own path, they would have kept their pants up? Sometimes mom and dad have to make the choices, or "lay down the law". You know......the "laws" that you harped about a few posts back? We set those "laws" with our kids to make them see things "our" way. (Whether you like it or not, MrC) But, you better not smack Jimmy in the chops when he's outta line! We have "grown" beyond that in the last two hundred years! Now, Jimmy can get Social Services to sue you!

Do you have any boundries, MrC, or is everything "do as you please, if it doesn't hurt me"?

As long as it's okay for John and Mike to play "grab ass" in the park, can they suck each other off, too? Hey, WTF! It doesn't hurt anyone! And if they are having a real good time, and don't have time to go to the public restroom, they can just shit in the flowers, and wipe their ass with the flag! Point being, at some point, most people think certain behavior is "too much". That is why, as a society, we put limits on things. I still contend, backwards thinking or not, most people would rather have "you people" in the closet.

Sixfive, keep your kid holding those doors! But you better have him be a little more "socially conscious".........Have him hold it for homosexuals, too.

You go dog! Beantown, I'm with you. I took my kids to the beach on Memorial Day Weekend a couple years ago forgetting that was the weekend THEY poured into town down here.

It was pretty disgusting. 2 of these cuties (1 was real hairy) were walking down the beach with their hands down the backs of each others little fruity swim trunks playing with each other's asses. There were banana hammocks and mascara everywhere. Frankly, it was nauseating.

I agree BTJ....THEY SHOULD STAY IN THE CLOSET...way in the back behind the old golfbag and winter coats.

:thefinger

Incidentally, the only 2 women that were there (other than my wife and daughter) may or may not have been lesbians. I don't know and thats my point...they behaved decently in public and weren't flaunting their sexuality. (Why can't it be the beautiful lesbians like in the porn movies that make out in front of me? :tongue )

Ocelot I agree bring on the hot chicks. If you see to hot chicks you kind-of look at it differant. It's when you see to real old dogs you say e-god. It's the same for us streight folks. You see two younger good looking folks playing with each other toys on the beach. You just watch and smile. I guess the point is none of us should be playing with each other ass in public. Even us dame.

homosexuality is not a disease, it is not contagious. people are born this way.

i'm torn on this particular issue.

first, a homosexual should hgave the same rights as a heterosexual, provided they contribute to society. that is if they have a job, pay taxes, vote, don't flaunt their way of life(province town) & obey the laws of the land they should have the same rights as others. anything else, imo is discrimination. that said, if the laws don't recognize marriages between homosexuals, all parties, especially elected officials, must obey the laws & fight any injustices that they see in the courts. if anybody breaks the law, no matter who it is, should be imprisoned, except the elected officials who violate the law. they should be hung!!

Watched 'Real Time' tonight, and Ian McKellan read a very appropriate quote from Thomas Jefferson (who certainly had many flaws of his own but was a progressive mind in many ways)...

"I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions. But laws and constitutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered, and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances. Institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors. "

Actually it was two, since "definately" is definitely not spelled the way you typed it. And since you spelled it that way twice, I'll count it as three. Yeah, I know it's nit-picking but you know what they say about glass houses....

OK, carry on....

They grow quality tomatoes. ;)

Really don't mean to drag this whole thing out well passed it's used-by date, but I would just like to respond to yyz and 65.

Believe it or I agree 100% with a lot of the things you both say, but believe the reason(s) for our 'declining society' are very different than you guys.

I did not suggest people let children grow up on their own. I was raised by two very sensible, "old fashioned", loving parents. I was smacked when I did something wrong. I believe very much that a lack of dicipline enforced on children these days is hurting society as a whole. My father had/has a 'good old fashioned work ethic'. He started at the bottom at a mine (Not literally! A mechanic), and worked his way to the head of the department. My mother was a prep teacher for 30-odd years, and still get's "Hello Mrs. Clarke" from 30 yo's she taught 25 years ago! I still call most of my parents friends Mrs. xxxx (unless they specify otherwise).

Sorry for the family history, but I wanted to point out that I definItely :)D ) respect and still adhere to a lot of these 'values' you talk about. I most definately DO have boundaries.

But my point is, even with all this I have much different views to my parents at this stage of my life. It's not any form of rebellion. I have no repressed feelings etc. I simply see things through different eyes than the generation before me.
Just because I am more "open-minded" than others doesn't mean I am a foul-mouthed, amoral satanist, who goes around kicking dogs "because I can"!

[Slight tangent here, but bare with me...] I think the last time I got 'fired up' on this board was when here in Australia, there was a push to pass a law to ban Muslim women from wearing their traditional clothing, because it could 'conceal a weapon!'!!! (I kid you not!). I won't comment on that anymore (I reckon you could guess my views on that one!), but lets pretend it was passed as law.....
....I may have 3 close neighbours. One a homosexual, one an aboriginal family and one a muslim family. I would quite happily stop and talk to each of them at any time.....But in the eyes of the 'law', one family is getting free education and health care, one's wife can't wear the clothes she feels most comfortable in, and one can't marry the person he loves.
Who can tell me this is 'fair'?

Which brings me to my final point.
As I said, I do believe lack of dicipline and 'parenting' is hurting society.....But so is lack of understanding and segregation.
People just aren't people anymore. Everyone is labeled. You can't just be Joe Smith, officeworker. You are Joe Smith, black man, gay man, Roman Catholic, Jew, Rich man, Poor man, Gambler...........etc. etc. etc. ****
If people could just see passed the 'labels' and accept people for what they are we would live in a much safer, more enjoyable world.

**** [I also understand that there will be people who label themselves because they are 'proud'....Whether they be 'Gay and Proud' or have a 'My son is an Honour Student' bumper sticker! Yes. They are annoying!.....But surely they are in the a very small percentile.]

Hope I didn't offend anyone at any time....Might head off to flick through my Little Oxford for an hour or two ;)

MrChristo you make some good points. But as we learn life is not fair all the time for any of us. One thing that shocked me. Was on the O'Rilley show last night he had two travel agents. They deal with private trips for groups of gays. Be it crusies or other. I'ts a 44 billion dollar business a year. and O' Rilley asked twice is that number correct. Answer was yes and yes. So there are a hell of a lot more folks that are gay then the few we see on TV. I would never had guessed that number either. It does tell me many are still hideing.
