You are correct sir. My point exactly.

There is no loyalty anymore.

How ya like this one Wilson?

"I think it's a great, great, great opportunity for him," said Don Nehlen. "I think it's tremendous. There are very few Michigans. When you coach at West Virginia you walk on water in West Virginia, but when you coach at Michigan, you walk on water, period. There's a difference. Some people around here don't want to believe that."

Ok, getting over the whole angst over RR actions last year vs this year, lets get to the real crux.

The quality of this move for the UM football program. I'd really like to hear from UM fans on this one, but of course anybody will do as we all follow CFB around here w/ a passion.....i'm sure tOSU fans will probably decry the move, but I figured, in the spirit of the rivalry and all that, they would mock whatever move UM made.

I happen to think this is a great move and as a season ticket holder it will be intirguing to watch RR implement this system to the personnel will currently have. For whatever reason, I like this move and am more exciting about it had they just went ahead of hired Miles.

So, any thoughts?

of course rr made the right call...michigan is one of the elite programs in the country.....offers from these type of colleges don't happen all the time...he had to take it...

TP, this appears to be a very good hire for many reasons. UM football had become stale and boring. RR will change all that from a recruiting and strategy/philosophy standpoint. He will without question overhaul UM's antiquated S&C program. Recruiting will certainly improve and we will be less reliant on our camp to do our recruiting for us (UM assistants and Carr became lazy in the last few years). RR will likely keep the best assistants (English, Soup, Jackson) and punt the dead weight.

My biggest concern is the transition period going from a pro style offense to a true spread. There will be growing pains but I do think that it's easier to go that direction than it is to go from a spread/option look to a pro set offense. Still, a concern for next year and maybe even 09.

RR will unquestionably have better athletes to work with at UM and the schedule only becomes marginally more difficult. All in all I am very pleased and I will be extremely happy if (when?) he brings Pryor with him.

As an OSU fan I hate this move. I would much rather have seen the Wolves hire Miles.

I would grade this hire as an A+ for Mich.

BTW, is WVU now just a farm team for the U of M?

I agree completely. I thought all along any new hire would bring fresh energy and some of those recruiting concerns you outlined would be solved.

That said, I like the change of pace that RR will bring to our offense. It'll be better than watching the same six play playbook that has been floating around for years.....for the first time in a long long time, people will have to gameplan for the variety we bring to the table. Plus, we suck a defending the spread, and I think a lot of that is we just dont practice against it......I think we'll see improvement in that area as well.

As you pointed out yesterday, he ran a rather pass happy spread while OC at Tulane. They averaged 300 yards passing, 200 yards rushing during their peak year. UM clearly has the talent to do that. This will be fun to watch.

You're right, based on that one isolated game, he won't be able to ever beat an Ohio State University. Hopefully, the AD can rescind the offer.:jerkit:

Rodriguez couldn't beat a BAD Pitt team when it counted, how is he going to beat Ohio State!

John Cooper beat Michigan in a big big game, the Rose Bowl, while at ASU.....that small sample size obviously carried over to his tenure at Ohio State, right!?!?!

Rodriguez did beat an SEC Champion in a bowl game....something OSU has never done, so he must not be that garbage of a coach.

I was honestly hoping that Les was still going to Mich, so that RR could slide into Baton Rouge.

Nice hire, i think.

Wood - been only skimming here, but what does RR do with Mallett (forgive me me if this was answered on page 7)

Shaun King threw 50-60 times a game under RR at Tulane. His system can be adapted to a passer. He just hasn't been able to recruit passers or receivers to WVU. No such problems at UM.

I would be very surprised if Mallett left. He was far more likely to leave if Debord stuck around then he is now.

Big Red or whoever

Big Red or whoever

Didn't Pat White get hurt against Pitt, then stood in the tunnel with plain clothes on & on the sideline, and then decide to return to the game not fully 100% but he knew how big the game was. It was not totally RR fault that they did not win that game. How many #1's fell on the last 4 weeks of the season but yet they are annoited as great coaches. I am a die hard Michigan fan and all this Bs about how Michigan was going about hiring a coach is Bs and now the coach they have hired is not a big game coach is crap. They said Mack Brown sucked as a big game coach but when Vince Young was there all you heard was how great the guy was(Great players make great coaches)! I guess all I'm saying is that every great coach losses big games even the genius in Columbus...Illinois & Florida if you coach in enough big games you will win some and you will lose some!
