Bautista could have avoided the punch but he was trying to be bad ass Bautista and got in the wrong guy's face. The bully is usually the one that goes down. Odor obviously wasn't going to be intimidated.

this. tough guy bit off more than he could chew and got decked. the claim of sucker punch is hilarious. he was squared up and got a nasty shove before Odor walloped him.

I'm not denying Bautista intended to go in hard. I'm assuming he made his mind up to do so if given the chance. However, the slide Bautista made, while maybe illegal this season, wasn't all that uncommon or excessive in my opinion. Every player on both teams has seen players trying to break up the double play and Odor has done far worse in the past. That's my whole point. Odor has purposely slid hard into a player, gone out of the baseline and way later, sometimes purposely spikes him, and then punches the guy in the face for bitching about it. Then it happens to him, but not nearly as bad because he didn't purposely get spiked nor did he go out of the baseline, and suddenly it's a dirty play deserving of a punch in the face? Sure Bautista is a dick and not well liked, but what if that punch ends up seriously hurting him, like the Rudy Tomjonavich incident, and the guy loses a season? What if it damages his eyesight and he loses his career? Just saying, Odor knew he was going to come in hard and he made up his mind to punch him if he did long before it happened. In my mind Odor was by far the more guilty party of poor sportsmanship.

Doesn't this shoot a hole in your "sucker punch" theory then? We agree on a lot of points, especially concerning Bautista. Bautista likely made up his mind he was going in hard very early. Bautista, while not the smartest guy roaming around HAD to know this was going to be a situation. I don't mean he should think there was going to be a situation or he should be concerned there might be a situation, he should flat out KNOW something is going to happen. You go in hard, get up and walk towards the guy and that guy shoves you away and you then go back at him I would hope you KNOW the punch is coming from a guy who is squared off with you.

And that may all be absolutely correct, but it doesn't excuse Odor's actions in the slightest. Odor has a history of being a bully as well, he just hasn't been doing it for as long as Bautista. I think there are people that have the stance that "it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy" and feel Bautista deserved it, so they defend Odor a bit and try to justify his actions by seeing Bautista's role as a bit more heinous than is actually there. I don't know that to be true, but that's how I feel. I'm not talking about PFan or purple specifically either. I just mean some fans in general. I dislike both players. To me, I can see the distinct change in arm angle and Odor looking straight at Bautista's face on the throw. I know for a fact the throw wasn't close to accurate. Well, rather than go over it all again, you know what I'm getting at. My eyes are fine, I know what I can see and I believe what I saw. That's it. If I'm wrong so be it, but judging from their suspensions, I'm assuming mlb abs I see it the same

That was my main thing. Suckered he was not.

Fake tough guy he was.

Again, in pretty much any part of the planet, if someone is in a hostile situation, and starts to walk up on someone aggressively, spitting shit talk, well they better have their hands ready

And the "Odor did it first to other ppl"

That really doesn't concern me...the rules were different.

It used to be considered OK to slide like that.

Now they say you can't. Bautista had intent.

Bautista I feel like is trying to be made out as a poor bystander who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If anything Odor has more of a case then Bsutista. He didn't flip his bat. He didn't drill 96 mph heat into any of the hitters that were at the plate. He was doing his job and Bautista wanted to stir the pot. He wanted to be the tough guy. Not against the RP who was right in front of him. Not the RP who drilled him. Not the RP who was NOT putting himself in a vulnerable spot. He chose to go after the smallest guy in a way that he believed kept him out of harms way.
He chose wrong. And then he pretended like he couldn't get past beltre lol...he wanted nothing to do with Odor.

And come on....in a matter of what, 2 seconds, that it takes a baserunner to slide and a infielder to transition from catch to throw, Odor looked at Bautista and thought "I think I'm gonna try and hit him in the face"...AND THEN, Bautista, knowing Odor's thought process and intent, said to himself "oh damn, he looks like he's positioning his arm to throw the ball low. No, even worse, at my face! I better keep my cleats down, slide safely, avoid getting drilled in the dome, and make sure I safely end up way past the base and in Odor's man area"

I just don't buy it....at all.

Bautista knew that there was a fire started....he had a bucket of water and a bucket of gas. He could have chose either. He chose the gas. That's fine, I'm not mad at him. But in no way do I think he is some victim or in anyway didn't deserve it. You try and literally end a guys year/career, you better have a spot reserved right above your chin.

Bautista is a ex-bucco and he was a d-bag then too ....always worried about his image and appearance

Some people talk about it
Some people be about it

I'm putting that on a poster with Bautista face

of course MLB suspended odor longer. He fucking drilled a guy.

I think most people are just saying they don't blame odor for doing what he did....and had reason to attack....

Bsutista walked up on him and I sure as hell interpreted Bautista's body language and demeanor as that of a threat or danger....what should odor have done? Walked away.? Well same can be said for Bautista. He chose to go into Odor's space. He wanted to be a tough guy. Wrong.

But again I don't think anyone in the world thought Bautista was going to get a longer suspension...has nothing to do with who was responsible for causing the actions. They can't penalize a player and say "he looked like he was going to throw a punch" ...even if that is what caused the actual punch to take place.

Anyways kind of crazy it's become this much of a conversation.

All opinions....some see it one way....some see it another....but just because you see one thing in an event that has no certainties and is open to interpretation, doesn't mean you can start calling those things facts on the basis of "well that's how I saw it so that's what it is"

You may look at a guy and see a nice guy. You claim he is so, and state it to be fact because you think you saw accurately. Well, that guys a serial masterbater who harassed his neighbors grandma and is friends with R-kelly. My point- you claim it to be fact that he was nice because you believe you saw correct...but in reality he is an asshole who jerks off to much.

To think you can call something fact because you think it to be so, is arrogant at best. To actually prove a theory, you have to have real hard evidence, or data, or research. Or anything that's not "I saw it in slow-mo and am pretty sure he was trying to throw at his face"

Last thing,

Did you ever stop to think about his change in arm angle and throwing motion in any other possibility?

Perhaps his arm angle changed because he knew he had to leave his feet due to the fast moving and massive sized human who was about to be engraved in his nut sack.

That is not just a theory. That's how I saw it. So that's what it was. That's a fact, mad-Jacks!

Lol

Dude game #2 was insane

I was 10 rows behind home bench.

Kessel is so freaking good. Gets overshadowed by sid/malkin/letang but in person he is so much better then I thought. So good. And hagelin can absolutely fly.

Hornquvist/hagelin/Kessel/sid/malkin

No reason we shouldn't win another cup

Easy to think that way, especially after beating Washington the way we did, but Tampa is pretty good. Everyone seems to forget they made the Finals last year.

7 more wins will be tough to get and that power play better figure it's shit out sooner than later. Tampa's no pushover, I'd love our chances against San Jose and think we could be St. Louis but it would be tough.

Might win 7 more, might not win another game. Things have been that close outside of the Rags series. The only game I've been to was game 5 against NYR but I'll go to 5 against Tampa next week and probably 7 if there is one.

That is not just a theory. That's how I saw it. So that's what it was. That's a fact, mad-Jacks!

Look brother, everything you base your argument on is speculative and their actions aren't "open for interpretation", they are their actions. It's what they did. Why is not relevant. How do you know that Bautista picked out Odor because he is the "smallest", which he isn't? There's no possible way for you to know that.
Yes, absolutely Odor should have walked away. If you call someone a dick over and over again, you don't get to lose it when someone does it to you.

I do have hard evidence. It's on tape?! Sheesh dude what more do you need? You're insinuating that Odor was within his rights or that he had no other choice than to punch the frigging guy because of a slide that is only now considered illegal? That's equivalent to saying a receiver had the right and should have decked the cornerback for hitting with the crown of his helmet. That's insane. Odor barely got touched and the ball is away, out of his hands before any contact, as minimal as there was, was even made. You keep saying Bautista planned this and he did that. Watch the damn tape. Odor immediately spun around and was facing Bautista before he got all the way back to his feet. Odor CLEARLY says something first to Bautista. Bautista CLEARLY doesn't even make a fist. Odor CLEARLY changes his arm angle and narrowly misses Bautista's face. As far as Bautista leaning his face out of the way in a split second reaction, have you ever been, I don't know weed whacking, and had something fly up and hit you in your now closed eye? You didn't even see it coming but you closed your eyes in time. It happens. Bautista CLEARLY alters his body position to the 3rd base side of the bag during his slide. Those are all facts supported by the video. All that other, picking a guy out stuff is purely speculative. Odor doesn't deny throwing at his head in the post game interview, choosing instead to say, "you saw what happened". If he truly had no intention of doing any such thing, he would have denied it immediately, knowing it will be grounds for discipline.
I get it brother, you think Bautista is a piece of crap and your glad he got what you believe to be his come uppance, that's fine. Just don't tell me I'm not seeing what I can see as plain as day.
No I didn't speculate as to why Odor changed his arm angle, but I will say he started the motion with the ball by his ear and ended up releasing it below his knees. I cannot think of any instance where that motion would have been faster or quicker than a straight overhand throw from the overhand position.

On another note, Bautista and Beltre have been friends for a long time. They still are, I commend Beltre for holding Bautista but you have zero way of knowing what either was thinking at that moment.

It's whatever you want it to be I guess, but in the end, Odor got the suspension for his actions. He's appealed it, do you really think he's going to tell the commissioner that Bautista got what he had coming because people dislike him, or that he'll say, "he walked toward me like he was going to beat me up so I just defended myself" and you think that will fly? Come on man.

That's what I would say ....the truth...what everyone saw....Bautista slid hard....got up jawing and walking towards me like he wanted some action....so I obliged him and made sure I struck first....

Again, I'm not at all saying Odor should have/could have....I'm saying I think it was just what he did....and don't think he was the reason it got to that point. Illegal slide with intent...that could end a season

Just answer me this....

Bautista, pissed off as he is....after sliding in and trying to make contact with odor....starts walking towards Odor like he did....if you hadnt scene the ending, what would you think happens next? Like everyone, AND ODOR, you would have guessed Bautista initiated physical contact.

My question: what happens if Odor doesn't act 1st?

Bautista wasn't walking into his face to talk about the slide....he wanted to hash it out with something other than words.......and odor did...OK with me....and gain if a guys walks up on you and you think he's going to get physical....and you had already had him slide into you....you aren't gonna try and act 1st? Your gonna try and talk it out, knowing that isn't his intent? I just don't see many people allowing the first punch happen on their face.....and no don't say Bautista wasn't going to hit him....we don't know that and if you don't want people to think you are coming to inflict pain, don't act like you plan on doing exactly that...

This is the best picture I can find and it's not as good as the video, but you honestly want to tell me Bautista slid the way he did because the ball was thrown at his face? Bautista's not yet even completely on the ground here, trailing knee past the bag and the ball is still in Odor's hand.

Come on man.

He should have kneed him in the face while "trying" to get out of the way!

But you seem to know, exactly, move for move based on video we all interpret differently than you, what they were thinking.

When did I ever say I knew what they were thinking? I know what they did, that's it. Not once did I say this is what they were thinking when it happened.
The difference is I'm not trying to interpret anything. If you choose to actually look at the video frame by frame, you'll see that Odor was turned around facing Bautista and saying something BEFORE Bautista even stood all the way up. There is no interpretation needed, that's what is on the video. I'm not assuming or interpreting anything.

Feel free to find any actual video evidence, or any confirmation to the contrary of what I am saying and I'll happily say I'm wrong. What I won't do is assert that I know anything about either player's intentions, feelings, emotions, or their favorite color. I don't and neither does anyone else in this forum. Interpret it any way you want, it won't change the physical evidence and that's just the way it is. Odor is the root cause and was suspended accordingly.

Bautista could have avoided the embarrassment. I betcha the next time he will not enter someone else's space like he did this time. He was definitely the aggressor and Odor did the right thing, unless he wanted to get KTFO. :mj07:
