Lumping USC in with UCLA, Stanford, and Cal in any discussion about academics is probably the most ridiculous thing (and there have been a lot of ridiculous things) posted on this board in the last week or so.

USC is a middle of the road academic institution overall and their academic criteria for athletes is nothing exceptional.

If USC can somehow survive playing opening their season on the road @arkansas, @Nebraska, @Arizona, USC will dominate 2h of season like they always do. USC doesn't play directional schools at home to start the season like SEC teams. Its just getting to the 2h of season undefeated. I think there is a legit chance USC can win their first 6 games. USC will be favored to win every game. USC vs ND at the end might decide who goes and plays for the BCS NC.

Of course I am assuming LENDALE WHITE, JUSTICE and SMITH are coming back. That is the rumor. Rumor can be false. All bets are off if White goes NFL. White wants to win the Heisman trophy next year and that is why USC sent White to ceremony with Bush. Give him a taste! White will easily rush over 2000 yards if he stays healthy.

All good points Scott, and those are tough road games and if they get by those team...yes, it could come down to ND vs SC for the NC...but just like Young, White will be a first rounder after that display in the NC...he is a bad man...I think when big time players opt to go to the NFL it tends to have a ripple effect on teams and other guys who are on the edge end up leaving...but we'll see what happens...I think White is a legit first rounder, he is a stud and has a ton of potential...plus with the pounding RBs take he should just go to the NFL

Ive applyed to all those schools and seen 3 of 4 of them. Cal and UCLA are the hardest school to get into acedemically wise in California, there is no way to spin that end of discussion. Stanford is very strict to.

USC is tough to get into financially wise its like 40-50K a year. So in a way they are exclusive as well i geuss. Athletes that go there are lucky to ge a very expensive education. SC has 1 of the best Acct programsin the country though and the #1 real estate program on the west coast by a mile. So they are an excellent business school.

I knew football players with, brace yourself "double majors" .

Not saying there arent standouts in either program, but ND's SCREENING process keeps the dirtbags out from the getgo, not after they have had a chance to embarass the university.

What does it boil down to? Limited resources for the Irish. Thats why I keep saying just being in a BCS bowl one year after firing their coach was a victory in itself!
Your right, but those bad apples disappear in time, and well about those kids who grew up in the ghetto and wouldn't had a chance to make it if some school didn't take the chance on them...I am sure their are plenty of individuals that grew up with less then you and I had...and there are plenty of "dirtbags" who are successful because they were able to play ball and earn degree with a scholarship...Your making a bad stereotype about people because of the enivorment they grew up in...Just cause a player has a double major in Comm and History isn't all that impressive either

WELCOME TO THE PRESENT DAY!

It is NOW harder to get accepted into USC than CAL and UCLA. This didn't just happen. It happened a few years ago! :mj14:

USC freshman have higher high school SAT and GPA's than UCLA and CAL freshman. This is a fact!

Entry requirements!

#1 Stanford
#2 USC
#3 UCLA
#4 CAL

Accept it, USC is now an academic University. Pres. Sample has made USC this way.

Case closed!

If I remember correctly, in newsweeks top rankings of Universitites, USC is ranked in the top 35 and UCLA was only few slots ahead of USC.

You are absolutely living on the moon if you believe that, in terms of academic reputation, USC can be put in the same category as Stanford or Cal. UCLA is a small cut above the University of Second Choice as well. I'm sure that's not the line they are feeding you as an alumnus, but that's the view from the rest of the world.

What the hell was it before if it wasn't an "Academic University"?

Scott's not only is he USC's #1 fan, he is also now on the academic review acceptance board...schools take in account more then just GPAs and SATs...this might shock you but some schools like ND and SC have to take minorities and in a lot casses students who are less qualified because of affirmative action and/or to help keep a racial balance

Disregard statement doing some research on the issue to add creditablity

Actually, since neither of those schools are public institutions, they are not bound by the same affirmative action guidelines that public schools are.

The fact is USC freshman have higher GPA's and SAT scores than Cal and UCLA freshman. This was 3+ years ago. Old news you obviously were not aware of. All public information at the time and printed in newspapers etc.

Are you sure about that...I thought they had to maintain a certain level of minority acceptance..I am almost certain this applies to even private schools to a certain degree...I'll do some reseach on the net to back up my statement

ESPN's early top 25

11. Michigan Wolverines
Why: If Mike Hart stays healthy and Chad Henne continues to progress, the Wolverines will still score a lot of points. And the defense will have a lot of experience at linebacker and in the secondary.

Why not: When was the last time this program lived up to expectations?

Sometimes I hate the Fawking Truth on the why not, GO BLUE!!! (the answer was 1997)

I'm gonna go ahead and place my 20k bet for the Wolverine national championship next year, how bout you?

You stop the debate on this crap.

US News and World Reports rankings on academic levels of American Universities...

5. Stanford
20. Cal Berkley
25. UCLA
30. USC

Just another case of Scotty over-hyping & spinning for USC! Go Scott!

USC is scheduled to play Ohio St. I can't wait for the game. From time to time, especially when the recruiting season ends I LOVE visiting the Ohio St. recruiting message board and laugh my a$$ off. Those fans talk about USC and Pete Caroll all the time. I LOVE IT!

Dude, you definitely need to get out more:weed:

For starters I brought up USC vs ND in OOC!

Then Moeclarrett posted about OSU/USC future game and I commented on that.

DerekNJND talked about ND academics and I posted supporting his claim. Then posters WRONGLY attacked USC academics.

Actually, the only thing I brought into the thread about USC was USC vs ND OOC matchup which was exactly the topic of the thread, OOC MATCHUPS!
