and I don't think anyone would mind the spam in whatever format.

Most wouldn't mind but you'd be surprised how pissed off some people get when they get a piece of spam mail. I guess they don't have a delete button like the rest of us do.

Over the years how many times have I been accused of selling email addresses? Plenty, and it's not worth the bother. :0008

How is real estate in ur area? Have u considered rental property as an option?
After seeing what my parents went through with rentals, back around 30 years ago, I swore I would never do it.

Gary has reminded me of the problems they had a few times as well.

No thanks :0008

A solid response, and for that I thank you all. As for Bart and Sports... Sigh.

I think Gary makes the most sound when speaking of being adaptive. Sponsorship is the backbone for paying for hosting, IE, the SLA, etc.

As far as paying membership, I'm not certain that will be a viable return too be honest.

Jack answered my question and I believe it is the correct answer with the current actions being carried out. A face lift may cost more than someone is willing to pay with the return being subjected to chance at this point.

I would hope we can continue this conversation as a community council going forward.

I'm very impressed with the input and glad to see many of you speak sincerely and with thought.

I spend a lot of time here for the personalities and friendships however, in the end it's a business and that is where I voiced concern.

I hope MJs continues until I'm in my late years.

And Jack, thanks for the transparent answer. :toast:

Timing has a lot to do with it. I might have a different opinion if I was getting into the market now versus 2007, and this was the only thing I was doing. I got snookered on the way in, bought at the wrong time, and have tried to manage two properties in two states while working a full time job. I'd probably feel a whole lot better if the one from 2007 had a 40k mortgage (or zero) instead of 96k.

This is something I will be looking into but I'm not that optimistic about it after having tried other advertising before.

I used to have a sports fan site that sold licensed products, like hats and shirts and whatnot. I did that to maybe make some extra bucks because a lot of guys have their personal hat bets from time to time. After an entire football season I made less than $20 commission which was not enough for them to even bother sending a check. :142smilie

Google ads? Yahoo ads? Nope, we're a gambling site, they won't approve us. Neweracaps.com the fuckin' caps site said no too

There is one area that I never tapped and I'm going to this year and there is a lot of interest too, by the way. I'll be taking on the dreaded sports touts as sponsors. I've been turning their business down since this site opened. Literally thousands and thousands of times I said no. Not any more.

I'll be taking on the pay per head shops too because the local books will need their services in the near future as more and more locals hit the scene.

The site will survive but I am going back to work :sadwave:

Would going back to hearing aids on part time basis be an option? You certainly would know what to expect having been there before--wouldn't be any surprises. Have heard it's a pretty lucrative business.

Nope, you have to be an audiologist now and I am not but was grandfathered in before. I let my license expire and am not going to school for my masters degree at this stage of the game.

I assume moving physical addy of website is not possible or some glitch involved.

You and IE have spent a lot of time learning what makes site successful. Could starting another site with euro location be in the cards.

Would think a site that could attract the Euro books and punters might be possibilty.

To do it you have to have a base of good handicappers to attract right crowd to attract books.

That (quality cappers) plus harem of books along with IE's endless supply of stats is what vaulted Madjacks over other sites back in the old days.

Kinda like --going back to the basics.

Pheonix sports tried to go the pay route and went right under. This was right when this Gov't stuff started happening. It is a different time now so who knows. There are just to many free sites for this to work but that is just my opinion. Back then it didn't work. Now it might.

Well, I certainly hope that works for you, Jack. I truly do. I can honestly say, I haven't met as many men in my life who are as nice as you are.

I'm pretty sure there are still enough dreamers out there who think Johnny Gringo's 1000 Star Lock on the Curling match tonight is worth $25.

It's just so odd that gambling can't ever move forward?

You can get your dispensers license here with an associates degree? They make around 60k in this state, so I am told. Of course you would have to live here:eek:

Best of luck to you Jack. I would think that if they do what they should and make sports gambling legal this site would be a gold mine.

Yup, that's where we start.

And, I am currently looking at various opportunities because the site can't pay me like it used to.

As long as there are 3 or 4 sponsors up there in the top left corner, the site will remain and so will IE.

The amount of time I spend here will depend on my new career.

Sad, ain't it? These greedy politicians want ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL the fucking money.

ALL OF IT!

Jack - I was going to talk to you about this at the outing, but since this topic has come up, now may be a good time to bat around the idea. I took a straw poll, um Joker, Nole, and BobbyP, and would think there might be another way to increase revenue for you.

I know the term "podcast" doesn't sound like it could bring in a great deal of revenue. but having a weekly or bi-weekly podcast with the Madjack name, could bring aboard some more sponsors. I would try this before a pay membership, simply because of traffic, word of mouth, etc.

I did radio off and on for five years and got some of the members on here to call in. I would have no problem hosting the thing and would not want one dime for it. I have several ideas to make it more than just a handicapping show, but entertaining as well. We all know Joker is the fawking man when it comes to production, editing, etc. I would think he could help me get it going. Something to think about and maybe discussed during the outing.

I can only imagine Nole would have great ideas after drinking Crown for 18 holes in 140 degree weather.:popcorn2

Good idea, for sure! :0074

Yup, let's discuss at the outing.

Thanks, man! :0008

Lost another sponsor yesterday. I'm thinking this site is going to be back where it started for me. A hobby :0003
