Neemer -

Just an interesting note on Midnight Express. It was the lead actor's (Brad Davis) first movie and he won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Acting Debut - Male, and also was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor. For reasons I'm not sure of, he hasn't been heard from since. Also won 2 Oscars, one for Best Writing (Oliver Stone) and was nominated for 4 others including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Directer, and Best Editing.

Oh, and it is also a true story.

OK Jack........Scary Movies.

My numero uno has to be The Shining. Eerie stuff like that freaks me out. Plus...this is something I'll never forget. I saw that movie for the first time in the theatre, after it had been out awhile, with my mother when i was about 12 or 13. There were a grand total of THREE people in the theatre, my mom, myself, and some random guy sitting way up front. That, in and of itself, was freaky enough.

hoops never saw Exotica but will soon, made a list for top 25 international films, along with Sweet hereafter. On Amazon somebody said good movie not as depressing as advertised. They missed the point, great film, probably top ten on any list. If you like those two you would enjoy most of the other Canadians films I listed.

La Confidential never made the list simply because the list was started in 1996, if issued now that movie may be on the list. along with the Titanic (to long of show) Godfather II was a great film, some say better than the original, only sequel to make the list.

Junior 44 out of your list the only ones I have not seen are Easy Rider, Midnight Express, The goodbye girl. Liked all the ones I saw. Resevoir Dogs was a good film, he made another one in which he acted.
You would like Shawshank Redemption, I would leave off Never Cry Wolf and would replace it with that movie. Amazon has a list of top 250 and that is the top movie.

Neemer hope you see more of these films some are really good, I save money by renting the older ones (ussually better) than renting the latest show.

Fantastic subject and posts!!!!

Two not so well known movies that are very stupid comedies, but if you enjoy that kind of stuff like I do I believe you will really enjoy these two:

Cabin Boy
"Starring" Chris Elliot.... you have to see this thing about five times to catch those stupid subtleties. I think spelled that right.

the Adventures of Ford Fairlane
"Starring" Dice Clay..... Yes it is very sophmoric humor, but Wayne Newton is soooo bad he is awesome. Actually one of my favorite lines of his from the movie I still use today:

"If you can't say something nice about somebody than make sure he is out of the God Damn room."

May all your dogs Bark,

I must concur that Reservoir Dogs is a terrific, lesser known movie that grabs you from the start. Lots of familiar actors though. Along that line, there is another film (Tarentino?) called Bad Lieutenant. Harvey Keitel as a drug-takin, gamblin cop in NYC. He keeps bangin the Mets in a fictional World Series.

Does anyone remember the title of a movie with James Caan from the 70s where he is betting sports? I remember a scene where he's relaxing in a bath tub, smoking a cigar, listening to a hoops game on the radio...

I always considered" Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf" to be a classic. The interaction between Richard Harris and Elizabeth Taylor is worth the price of the rental!

I also melt REAL butter over the stove and pour the chit all over it! I also lay the salt to it! YOu mix this with an ice cold mug of root beer, and the Movie Theatre aint got chit on me!!

Hopefully, this little production I'm puttin' on will get me a little .........

Rented Shawshank tonight as well......gonna watch it tommorow night.

One other movie that may not rank in the top 100, but combined with the comedy element is a classic flick: When Harry Met Sally.

Saw the Lieutenent as well. Not a Tarentino flick but a damn good film. Hell, anything with Harvey Keitel in is worth a view.

It seems rather ironic that my first post at a gaming site would be about movies. Actually, I'm more confident of my selections at this venue. The best movie ever - none close enough to rate #2 or 3 - is Cuckoo's Nest. It was hard to believe they were actors instead of "nuts". Great acting great plot, drama, comedy - it has it all. The book is great also but definitely watch the movie first. It makes the surprises that much more delicious. As a sidenote, Kesey wrote it using McMurphy's character to depict Jesus Christ, with Billy Bibbit being Judas, the party being the last supper, and the "nuts" being R.P.'s disciples. 'Unforgiven was terrible. Watch "Outlaw Josey Wales" instead. "Jaws" and "Clockwork Orange" were also great. The funniest movie I ever saw was "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Guess I am rambling but I want to say that this is a great site. Accidentally stumbled onto it, loved Cow's humor and then fell into the forum. This feels like a bar atmosphere where everyone makes his or her opinion. Take them or leave them, I'm glad they're there for the choosing. "Good Luck to us all."

JR.....

Nice one indeed! Wife couldn't bear to watch it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Hard to imagine that that was actually a true story. I could've done without the shower scene, but the rest was sum good stuff!

Shawshank & Midnight Express have very similiar plots. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed your selection.....

Neemer - glad you liked it. Concur in regards to shower scene. Pretty amazing that it was a true story. When that movie came out, the Turks were in an uproar because it portrayed their prisons as being inhumane and barbaric. But, that's exactly how they are. Sickening when you consider that there are some Americans in that situation as a speak.

Had minor-emergengy last night, couldn't watch Shawshank. But, it's still sitting on my kitchen table.....will let you know as as soon as I watch it.

Give ya a little info. on the movie JR>>>>

Stephen King wrote the book and it turned out to be an extremely wonderful movie. Always hate to see a really good book be adapted to the screen, cuz they usually frick' it up pretty good. Shawshank is certainly the exception here. The only other memorable King's novels that they adapted to the screen was The Shining. Sheesh, that movie still freaks me out...

In my opinion, one of Freeman Morgan's finest performance. Both he and Tim Robbins were spectacular in this one. I think Freeman even got nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actor category.

Take notice of their top ten.
