Fight Card
-------------------------------------------------

Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Wanderlei Silva
Matt Brown vs. Chris Lytle
Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski :canada1
Kurt Pellegrino vs. George Sotiropoulos
Brendan Schaub vs. Chris Tuchscherer
Kendall Grove vs. Goran Reljic
Seth Petruzelli vs. Ricardo Romero
Dave Branch vs. Gerald Harris
Julio Paulino vs. Daniel Roberts
Jon Madsen vs. Karlos Vemola

Seth is back baby.....yep that is right...SETH IS BACK :box2: :box2: :box2:
I agree with KS. I got Carwin at +160 a couple weeks ago. Shane is going to win this fight. It will end early, likely inside of one round.
A couple things I like about this matchup. Shane is nearly as heavy as Brock with a much lower center of gravity, it will be hard for Lesnar to take Shane down without exposing his chin to a fight-ending bomb. Ring rust will also play a huge role in Shane's favor.

That sucks Wandy had to bail on the fight. I was really looking forward to that fight.

Mark it down, Carwin is going to be on his back and everyone on here is going to say "he needs to learn how to freaking stop the takedown." It happens everytime a guy that is a dominate wrestler fights. I hate the style but it's as predictable as it gets. Some guys get stupid and don't do it but I think with Randy helping Brock, the strategy will be pretty tight. He may start by pushing Carwin against the cage and fighting like Randy does but if Carwin gets any shots in then Brock puts him down. Brocks size will be a big advantage up against the cage, he'll be able to lean on Carwin a bit more.

I would like to see Carwin get a few shots in on Brock's head to see what happens.

Lots of guys have this misperception that Carwin is the same size when he isn't. Brock took a huge knee of Mirs and it stunned him but nothing more. I would much rather take a fist than a knee. I think where the two are separated is athletism which Brock has ten fold over Carwin.

i don't know how carwin packs so much weight into his frame. he doesn't look 285 to me and yet that's apparently his walk around weight.

he doesn't weigh much less than lesnar, but he looks small by comparison. he does carry more weight in his legs, but he still looks a lot smaller.

as far as the fight, i hope it ends fairly quickly and dramatically so we don't have to endure a sloppy gas-fest.

however, i suspect lesnar will get the takedown often and tko a cardio compromised carwin.

Wanderlai Silva backs out of fight, possibly fractured ribs.
Chris Leben signs the deal to fight, for the 2nd time in two weeks.
I gotta tell ya, They called him the first bad boy in ultimate fighter, but I liked him. I thought the real dickheads in the house were Koschek and his other partner in crime ( I forget his name).
Sure Leben has issues, who doesn't, but I cant help but root for the guy, just like Court Mcgee.
by the way, anyone else bummed that Koschek is a coach on the next season of ultimate fighter?
I just can't stand the guy and await anxiously to see gsp pummel him.

I'm all for Leben, he leaves it all in the ring everytime and anytime someone steps up like this I can't help but respect them.

I hate Kos but he did the same thing when Diego backed out vs roid boy. Not quite as short of notice but it was short enough for him to get KO'd.:142smilie

Boy all i hear is how Leben is a warrior for stepping up. He had no injuries so why wouldn't he? These guys don't make that good of money unless they are a big names so why the hell wouldn't he fight? This is all about trying to make a nice chunk of change and nothing to do about being a warrior :mj07: . Heck the guy on tuff fought 5 fights in six weeks he must be Achilles :mj07: Cmon guys even in the early days of the UFC guys were fighting three fights a night. Leben is such a mediocre fighter. Heck he lost to those two Canadian stiffs Karib Starnes and Gary's favorite fighter Jason MacDonald. There was rumors that he didn't even train for Rosholt so who knows what he will be doing this time around. He did look in great shape last fight i will give him that. Hopefully his head is in it.

Now this is a fukin warrior. I can see why Bucks is a big fan of this guy. He just grows on ya.
Slowly becoming my favorite fighter.

Wanderlei Silva: ?After years of fighting, my body made me stop this time?
Posted by Kris Karkoski on Jun 23, 2010 at 1:13 pm ET9 CommentsWanderlei Silva today spoke to Fighters Only about being forced to withdraw from his UFC 116 matchup with Yoshihiro Akiyama, revealing that he planned to fight with a torn knee until finally being forced out of the bout after suffering three broken ribs:

?Two weeks ago I felt pain in my knee while I was training wrestling. I had an MRI of my knee and three doctors told me my knee was torn. I took medicine to help with the pain, and although my knee felt loose, I said ?no, this date is very important to me? and I continued training.

I was gonna fight no matter what. Last Friday, during sparring, I injured my rib. It was very painful and the next day I had an x-ray and an MRI. I discovered I had three broken ribs.

After years of fighting, my body made me stop this time. This is a very, very, very hard moment for me. This is my livelihood, my job and I already put in a lot of time and effort into this fight. You cannot imagine how much I wanted to fight on this card. It was my birthday, I had friends and family from Brazil and around the world coming to see me and now I cannot fight.

I apologize to my opponent. I hope that I can fight with you in the future. ? Now, I know that I need to have surgery on my knee. I have no option. I am going to be 100% and will fight many more years.?

when was the last time you went into the second round of a ufc fight?.....

i can see why he took it...to kiss dana`s ass(smart move)...make some extra jack....and if you lose, you fought 2 fights in a 2 week span....

it`s a smart move...not as easy as you might think,though...

I knew it had to be pretty serious for Wandy to back out. He's such a tough fucker and he loves to fight.

The biggest reason I love the guy and he's my favorite fighter is because he's there for one reason. To give the fans a show. He's always there to entertain the crowd and he truly cares about his fans.

I was really looking forward to this fight because a win vs Akiyama puts him towards the top.

We will rebound, and look even stronger!

i don't even understand what you mean. I don't work for the UFC but if this is what i was doing for a living i would have took the fight also because u have to jump at the chance or u might not even break 100 grand for the year for doing something this crazy and most of ur money goes to training and other expenses. Not like you can do this for 20 years unless u are a genetic freak.

was just reading an article at mma junkie indicating that akiyama was considering pulling out vs leben.....

and again i made the mistake of reading the comments that came sfter the article..

idiots on their board don`t understand what a big deal that the silva fight was for akiyama......

he`d been prepping and gameplanning for nearly a year(or so he claimed)...not to mention the fact that leben is a basically a gatekeeper...but,he`s a dangerous, lefty gatekeeper with a head like a cinder block and not a damned thing to lose....he would prefer a higher profile opponent, but wasn`t getting one on such short notice...

and mainly,he`s NOT wanderlei silva...a win over leben, who fought a little over a week ago, will not do all that much to advance his position... but a win skyrockets leben`s stock coming on the heels of his upset win over what`s his name...

those are real,legitimate concerns....

god i hate those f-cking boards(they`re overpopulated with f-cking idiots)....

i wonder how many guys were asked or did Dana grab the first guy that called him. I can't blame sexy for wanting to pull out. To me his reasons are very valid but with the caveman mentality with the UFC fans, they would call him a coward if he actually did. I wonder when the day comes when some of these fans realize this is a business also.

Losing the Akiyama/Wandy fight was a big blow to this card for me. I was on Akiyama and fully expected him to get the win against a man who is a legend in Silva.

I would like to see him drop to 170 but I don't think he will. Wonder if he will stand with Leben or take him down

Carwin wins this fight.

AND this is good for Dana White because that gives him the immediate ability to start hyping the Lesnar double comeback to get back the belt.

Oh, and put your money on Carwin in that one, too!
