We have to remember that Jones' was a fill in and not in line for a title shot. the last time this
happened was for a title fight was Silva/Maia.
Everyone knew Maia was going to lose so the UFC didn't bother promoting Maia at all for the fight,
because they knew it would just be a waste of money.
Now it's an almost identical scenario but they have been promoting Jones all over the place, putting
a lot of money behind him. Dana like to to "brand" fighters like he did with Lidell and GSP, and thats
what he is doing with Jones now. I don't think he would bother with this if he didn't think Jones was
going to win, and not surprisingly the oddsmaker heavily favors Jones as well.
I think the plan for Jones all along was to give him a title shot, but later on down the road. Dana and the UFC wanted to get the most value out of their high payed light heivyweights like rampage and rashad first.
But now they have had to move Jones' along faster because they had to, or otherwise risk blowing the entire event. And before people get on me for not giving Shogun enough credit as a ifghter, I just thinks jones is possibly the worst stylistic matchup for Shogun.
It is also in the best interests of the UFC to have a champion that lasts for a long time and I think jones fits that bill more than Shogun at the moment
shogun backers, are you concerned?
