And this is not the society I want to live in. in my mind 'My job' is to live my life however I please, so long as I am not harming someone else.
The police's job is to serve and protect us from those that break the laws.

I agree with everything you say......Where I have issue is the people who continually break the law over and over a again and are allowed to come right back on the streets to do it all over again.....How do I teach my kids there are consequences for their actions when in reality society/courts keep proving different.....In my opinion the police have been doing their job, the law makers/courts haven't....:shrug:

Well lets try for five years to decriminalize all drugs. Instead of putting people in jail we can try to rehab those who need it.

The nonsense war on drugs has just been a waste of money and effort.

If after five years it has not helped they can go back.

Portugal has done something like it.

The tougher lesson to teach your kids is why America has the highest incarceration rates in the world. We are worse than every country! Is that because people in America are just bad? Or perhaps we have a problem with our criminal justice system. Maybe we have given cops a little bit too much power to arrest folks, and the courts a little bit too much power to hand down prison sentences.

I can't imagine how I would broach that subject with a child.
