Graham going with the slight upset....Lindsay over Appleby on points.

This looks to be a fantastically matched battle...but I can't peg it. NO PLAY for me so far. Very evenly matched.

Although, as Graham points out, the Irish fighters are on a roll lately. If Lindsay gets half the crowd support Bernard Dunne did, it would still be overwhelming. Man, they love their boxing in Ireland.

some guy over at the boxrec forums is talking up this guy fighting Guinn on the Saturday Showtime undercard:

"Johnnie White was a very solid amateur just a few years back and Guinn is being served up here as a stepping stone only to make him look good. White will win and easily at that, hop on him as a dog and cash in."

White is +375. Anyone know if this amateur info is true? I don't want to jump the gun here, but Guinn can be outworked, as we know, and coast in there.

I looked at this fight. I do not know of White doing particularly well in the amateurs. As a professional he has been meeting exceptionally low-calibre opposition and he had to go the full eight rounds against Cliff Couser, who has lately been going down very easily (and quickly). Guinn is well capable of blowing a winnable fight, as we all know, but surely there is a class difference here? I don't think the oddsmaker has got this one wrong, although I suppose a throwaway wager on any Guinn opponent could be considered appropriate bearing in mind Dominick's past history.

Pong didn;t lose his last fight against Naito it was a draw. In all honesty that verdict was wrong as well, Pong should have gotten his title back. He won 7-8 rounds. Although he did lose the 3rd fight legit.

Yes, right, Naito got the win and then they finished the four-fight series with a draw. Pongsaklek looked the better fighter and was sharper but Naito threw a ton of punches. On the consensus scoring (where at least two of the judges agree on a round), Naito came out ahead 115-113. I thought the draw was fair, but that's just my opinion.

Daniel Jacobs, 161 vs. Jose Varela, 161

7 pounds but still significant.
I took under 6.5-130 large a few days ago as well.

My Plays for Friday, 4/24/09:

LARGE Jacobs under 6.5

MEDIUM Latimore
MEDIUM Alexander-Rodriguez under 9.5
MEDIUM Dapudong
MEDIUM Davaryl Williamson

SMALL Latimore-Spinks under 10.5 (I think the Bull KOs Cory)

NO PLAY for me on Stark Jr. vs. Escalante
I think Escalante wins by late KO, but he is over-priced

Still looking at a stacked Saturday.
Good luck everybody!

I took Evans advice on Williamson. Props to him if it wins. I was going to leave it alone but apparently there is a good gulf in class despite Williamson being 40. Davis is a muscular arm puncher with limited technique...tailor made for the young Williamson but TOS should still have enough for the 35 yr old Davis with a padded record.

Doing some research on this one @ boxrec and came across a fighter with the name Willie Driver. Just wondering if he ever dated a preachers daughter:142smilie

Nice to see you and Evan on Williamson as well....let's hope the old man pulls through for us tonight
:toast:

I added 20 bucks to the DRAW in Escalante-Stark
30:1 odds
ESPN2 FNF

I almost hit one a few weeks back with Alvarez-Rodriguez
at least that gives me a play on the main event

If Williamson and Jacobs take care of biz, I will be a happy camper....Latimore would be an added plus....but can't be greedy....Jacobs UNDER and Williamson are the keys

then I will attack tomorrow

Evans seems to be very confident in Williamson.

I agree with you Romi, thats probably the best way to describe Davis, i. e. a muscular arm puncher....he looks pretty ordinary, but I wouldnt feel confident betting anything big on TOS anyway....
