After hearing so much about Chavez jrs. sparring session against Vanes, I finally took I look myself.
Here are my 2 cents:
For once, it was a very intense sparring session! Actually, I can think of a lot of ?real? fights where the fighters fought with less commitment.
Vanes showed better boxing skills and was generally more active, which is no surprise!
Chavez was sometimes EXTREMELY easy to hit, even when he was trying to move away he moved right into some punches?.but he took the punches well and looked like the stronger fighter, which he should be considering he is a middleweight!
Chavez had some success when Vanes let him lean on him and get set to throw his hooks on the inside. No clinching here whatsoever, which could have saved Vanes in those situations!
What was a bit concerning about Chavez (next to his defensive flaws) was that you didn?t get the impression that he was wearing Vanes down. He was even pushed back quite a bit, which might show that he isn?t overly comfortable to set a very high pace.
But that is nothing new either!
So, overall, I think Chavez weaknesses were confirmed! I thought he was pretty unimpressive against Lyell. A guy with his style should be able to set and maintain a better pace!
Zbik is +200 at betonfighing, hmm?.
I agree with all of the above; watched the session 3x. What I must also consider is the following: fighting in Cali, at home; Freddie Roach training; daddy Chavez involved; and last but maybe MOST important Bob "the con artist/bullshit artist" Arum is behind Chavez. I don't see anyone being put to sleep here=go to the scorecards. Can Zbik get a fair shake in this one? I've seen Chavez fight live and I have never been impressed with his skill set. This one stinks like the Fulton fish market on Monday morning.
