Hurricanes 3, Sabres 1

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Sebastian Aho scored the go-ahead goal with 4:45 remaining to lead Carolina over Buffalo.

NHL notebook: Ovechkin takes puck to face vs. Wild
November 18, 2017

WASHINGTON -- Alex Ovechkin left the Washington Capitals' game Saturday night against the Minnesota Wild with 11 minutes left in the second period after taking a puck to the face.

A puck off the stick of Minnesota's Chris Stewart deflected off Ovechkin's stick and then hit him in the face below his visor.

Ovechkin fell to the ice and was helped up by a trainer and went to the dressing room. Ovechkin left a pool of blood where he had fallen, which was cleaned up before play resumed.

Ovechkin returned to start the second period.

--Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford returned to Saturday's game against the Penguins in the second period after being clipped in the head by center Evgeni Malkin.

Malkin skated past and collided with Crawford, who was out of the crease near the left post at 8:43 of the second period. Crawford remained on the ice for a couple of minutes before being replaced by backup Anton Forsberg.

NHL suspends Gudas for 10 games, Watson for 2
November 19, 2017

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas received a 10-game suspension and Nashville Predators forward Austin Watson was handed a two-game ban in punishments announced by the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety on Sunday night.

Gudas' suspension was for slashing Jets forward Mathieu Perreault in Winnipeg on Thursday. Gudas was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for slashing when the incident occurred at 9:50 of the first period.

"He got the meaty part of the neck. It could have been worse, I guess," Perreault told the Courier Post of Cherry Hill, N.J. "He apologized in the penalty box, but when you look at the replay, it looks like he did it on purpose. It wasn't an accident. He's been known for doing stuff like that, so I certainly don't appreciate it."

A 27-year-old Czech native, Gudas has no goals, two assists and 57 penalty minutes in 17 games this season.

Watson was sanctioned for boarding Colorado Avalanche forward Dominic Toninato in Nashville on Saturday. Watson was handed assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding at 11:47 of the first period.

The 10-game suspension will cost Gudas $408,536.60, while the two-game suspension will cost Watson $11,827.96. The fines go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund

NHL roundup: Predators halt Jets' four-game win streak
November 21, 2017

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Ryan Johansen and Kyle Turris each had a goal and an assist as the Nashville Predators dumped the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 on Monday night.

In a matchup of two of the NHL's hottest teams, Nashville won for the seventh time in eight games, using a three-goal uprising in the second period to hand Winnipeg only its third regulation loss in 18 games. The result halted the Jets' four-game win streak.

Johansen broke a 1-1 tie 26 seconds into the second period, taking Filip Forsberg's pass in the slot and ripping a wrister over the glove of Connor Hellebuyck. Turris made it 3-1 at 11:32 with a one-timer from Roman Josi on the power play.

Ducks 3, Sharks 2 (SO)

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Antoine Vermette scored in the ninth round of a marathon shootout as Anaheim beat San Jose at SAP Center.

Joonas Donskoi sent the game to overtime by scoring the tying goal for the Sharks -- his second goal of the game and seventh of the season -- on a power play at 8:19 of the third period.

The Ducks scored 45 seconds into the second period to tie the score at 1 when Brandon Montour made a perfect cross-ice feed from the right point to Corey Perry, who punched home his fourth goal. Rickard Rakel scored the go-ahead goal for Anaheim at 11:39 of the second.

Blue Jackets 3, Sabres 2

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Artemi Panarin scored for the second game in a row to lead Columbus over Buffalo.

Pierre-Luc Dubois and Boone Jenner also scored for the Blue Jackets, who won their fourth game in a row. Sam Reinhart and Evander Kane collected the Sabres' goals.

Robin Lehner made 27 saves for the Sabres. Sergei Bobrovsky had 30 saves for the Blue Jackets, but his shutout streak ended at 1:17:23 in the third period.

Coyotes 4, Maple Leafs 1

TORONTO -- Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the go-ahead goal on a power play late in the second period and Arizona defeated Toronto.

The Coyotes ended the Maple Leafs' six-game winning streak and earned their third win in a row. Arizona is 7-0-1 in its past eight games at the Air Canada Centre.

Brendan Perlini, Max Domi and Tobias Rieder also scored for Arizona, and Antti Raanta made 27 saves. James van Riemsdyk scored for Toronto, and Frederik Andersen stopped 27 shots.

Devils 4, Wild 3 (OT)

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Two fortunate bounces and John Moore's goal in the first minute of overtime helped New Jersey snap a two-game losing streak. Moore got his third goal of the season 52 seconds into OT off a pass from Adam Henrique as Minnesota's late rally went for naught.

Henrique and Steven Santini both scored goals that went into the net off a Minnesota player, and Cory Schneider chipped in with 33 saves for the Devils. Will Butcher added a goal for New Jersey.

Minnesota's Mikael Granlund scored twice in the final 10 minutes to force overtime after New Jersey built a 3-1 lead. Nino Niederreiter also scored, and Devan Dubnyk had 21 saves for the Wild.

Flames 4, Capitals 1

WASHINGTON -- Johnny Gaudreau extended his career-best point streak to 10 games with a goal and an assist, Mike Smith made 29 saves, and Calgary defeated Washington.

Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund each added a goal and an assist, and Mark Giordano scored for Calgary. Dougie Hamilton and Matthew Tkachuk each had two assists. Gaudreau has eight goals and 11 assists in his past 10 games.

Lars Eller scored for the Capitals, who saw their five-game home winning streak end.
