Being of Slovenian descent, I am somewhat proud of the first Slovenian in the white house.

Stevie,
First time I disagree with you. I think Pocohantas would have made a good president.

Hey, you were the one all excited about all this "political correctness" going away. Isn't that what you said, or am I paraphrasing? So you inferred you're own bigotry, I simply pointed out your excitement. We both know what you meant, but you go ahead and deny it. Generally, bigots aren't much for telling the truth, so I didn't expect much in the first place

Wow, among your many obvious "talents" you apparently read everyone's minds.....
Such awesomeness on this site, I salute you, we are so honored to have you spewing your venomous "wisdom...."
Just to give some of my political history for some context, I interned for a Republican state rep in 1996 and was a card-carrying Young Republican from 96-98. I voted for Bush in 2000, Badnarik (Libertarian) in 2004, and Obama in 2008 and 2012. Funnily enough, I don't think my political ideology has changed much. I've just seen a relatively centrist Republican party go further and further right. I didn't leave them - they left me.
I watched during the Bush presidency as the right consistently said "Hey, we were attacked and we're at war. Even if you don't agree with him or the war, you have to support our President." How quickly that went up in a cloud of dust in 2008. He hadn't even been inaugurated yet and the Tea Party movement was in full swing. It wasn't enough that they disagreed with his ideas, he had to be labeled an evil Socialist and compared to Hitler. I've heard on here and elsewhere (paraphrasing) "if you think this election was about misogyny, racism, and Islamophobia you haven't been paying attention and don't understand what really gave rise to this." Well similarly, if you don't understand why there are protests and the "not my president" movement, then you haven't been paying attention to the level of disrespect that the right has had for Obama the last 8 years. This is tit for tat. Is that the mature response? No, but that's where we are.
You don't like Hillary? Fine - there's a lot there to not like. But the right can't leave it at that. She has to be labeled "the most corrupt politician in history" and linked to ludicrous murder conspiracy theories worthy of tin foil hats. Is that sufficient reason to give a reality TV star the keys to the nuclear arsenal? A man with such little actual business sense that he left the casino business because he couldn't figure out how to make money at it? Not in my opinion.
So do not expect "healing". You will see the same obstructionism from Democrats that you saw from Republicans in Obama's first 2 years. Expect many a fillibuster. Again - tit for tat.
I do understand that, by and large, the American people don't like dynasties in politics. Going from Bush to Clinton to Bush to Obama and then back to Clinton again does not scream "change" to people who desperately need things to change. I just wish it was in service of a better candidate. Republicans needed another Ronald Reagan. Donald Trump is not Reagan. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.
But the bottom line is we still have the same broken system. Just as there were delusional people on the left in the streets of Chicago in 2008 saying "I don't need to worry about how I'm going to pay my rent anymore!" so there are now delusional people on the right saying "Trump's going to bring all the jobs back!" and it will be the same result. Disappointment - disenfranchisement - and eventually a wholesale housecleaning in Congress and Dems will get their shot again. Rinse and repeat.
"I pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again"
4 years ago and 8 years ago, the left spoke of supporting the elected pres. Now that your candiate loses 310-228 (i call it a blowout), you spew hate and vitriol against the newly elected POTUS and label his supporters as racist. Fuck the lot of you.
Hypo-fucking-crites, every single one of you
More of the same, regardless of which party wins. In life, winners celebrate, while losers find excuses. For the last 8 years, Republicans whined while democrats thumbed their noses. When Bush was is office, the roles were reversed. Now, the roles are reversed again.
How any of you lose sleep over this shit is beyond me.
You act like you were chained to a post for the last eight years, and were just freed today.
Your life isn't any different today, than it was yesterday. Odds are pretty good that in four years, you will be exactly where you have been for the last umpteen years.
The beauty of this is, that when Trump doesn't fulfill any of his promises (you know.....same as every other politician throughout history), you will cry about how his hands were tied because the Dems fucked up the "system" so bad for almost 10 years.
The only thing that ever changes, is which side is blaming which.
The people who actually run our lives must laugh their asses off.
Exactly. 8 years ago, i posted the same about republicans that i am of dems now. hypocrites and pussies. :0074
When the Republican Senate Majority Leader holds a meeting the night of Obama's first inauguration making it a priority for Obama to get nothing accomplished and to do everything he can to make Obama a one term president....
When a Republican Congress does not hold hearings on a presidential appointee for the Supreme Court...
When the President-elect questions the President's legitimacy and demands that he produce a birth certificate.....
I get the back and forth argument. Political discourse is toxic and dangerous at this point. Still, although 85 F and 110 F may both be considered hot, one is far more uncomfortable.
I know this, when obama won, there were no demonstrations in nola. Hillary loses and crowds are stopping the flow of traffic holding up black power signs. "black power" spray painted all over downtown historical monuments.
One version of black power is the right to vote. I dont want to hear complaints from the black community about this loss for hillary, because they didnt turn out like 2012 and nowhere near 2008. Uneducated white voters showed up bigtime in pennsylvania, florida, ohio, michigan and wisconsin. That won this election. Black community in nola will stop traffic and vandalise monuments, but you wont hear any of them (except stephen a smith) pointing the finger at their own.
That behavior is wrong and the behavior at ... hell pick any ... Trump rally was wrong. I'm not talking about the supporters. I'm talk of my about the people they support. Still, I'm sure we can disagree on this thread without wanting the other to go to jail. Respect to your views.

The fact that they are holding up black power signs should tell you that it's not really about the election results. This was simply a catalyst for the anger and outrage that has been part of the BLM movement for the last year.
But also, you didn't see protests in '08 and '12 because those were not close elections. Obama won by 10 million votes (and 365-173 in the EC) in 2008 and by 5 million votes (332-206) in 2012. Surely you can see how a result of 279-228 (as of now) with the losing candidate getting 250k more votes overall than the winner produces a slightly more contentious atmosphere, no?
Protesting now is stupid and pointless. Say what you will about Republicans - but they know how to mobilize for political purpose. Their anger at Obama led to the Tea Party movement. Democrats anger at the GOP taking back Congress led them (in the words of Doug Stanhope) to go stink up some parks for a couple months. Similarly, all this nonsense now is not for a purpose - just "I'm mad, and I wanna go f*** sh** up"
I do, however, enjoy the irony that while Trump supporters really bristled at being lumped together as racist and misogynistic "deplorables" they are all too happy to lump all Democrats in with these protestors.
In many ways, I feel like this election was the greatest Republican rope-a-dope of all time. The general tone leading up to the election, from both sides, was "yeah, I'm not excited about either candidate. Maybe I'll just stay home." And then on Election Day Republicans said "Just kidding! We all still voted and we all voted for Trump." Overall turnout was up 5% but at an all-time low among Democrats in swing states. That was the election right there. Republicans closed ranks behind Trump and Democrats closed ranks behind apathy.
