Raw, you know there's a BIG difference in subbing someone in BJJ class than there is with someone being able to hit or elbow you. The students may sub him here and there but they're not getting hit while trying. I will consider this the biggest upset in a championship fight ever. And yes Kick, even when GSP lost to Serra.

Yes, i've seen BJJ guys choke in MMA, but 9 times out of 10 they just aren't fighters.. or they haven't put themselves in those combat situations when training MMA. I mean, maybe if you're a blue belt, or havent been training in BJJ for 10 solid years like Thales Leites has, you might struggle with the transition from BJJ to MMA...

I'd say top submission guys like Galvao, Roger Gracie, Maia, Aoki, Torres, Leites, Nate Diaz, etc.... havent had much trouble getting quick and easy submissions wins whether punches and elbows are involved or not... they came straight from BJJ to putting their stamp on people in MMA, submission-wise.

I know subbing Silva will be a lot more difficult than subbing Floyd Sword or McFedries, but i would think it's MORE POSSIBLE for Leites to sub Anderson in MMA than in straight BJJ. If you throw punches, it's easier to get your arm trapped (and armlocked/triangled)..... If you shoot a double-leg (we know Anderson won't shoot, but just an example), you're at risk for a guillotine.. You can throw an up-kick and get heel hooked, etc.

It would be NO different for Leites to sub Anderson than it was for Joe Stevenson to sub Gleison Tibau. NO different than Kenny Florian or BJ Penn subbing Joe Stevenson (all are examples of black belts subbing other black belts). Also, think of guys like Urijah Faber who come out and sub dudes like Jeff Curran who have been training BJJ for 15 years!?? :scared

I mean, please... if fucking RYO CHONAN can submit Anderson Silva, then believe me.... Leites is CAPABLE of a sub. Whether he'll do it or not? Will be difficult, but i'll take the odds. :)

When it comes down to it, i'm making a SMALL investment in a HUGE UNDERDOG who NOBODY expects to win, there ya have it. And yes, i know how amazing Anderson Silva is and how he is expected to pummel Leites. I know this, but it's not like i'm taking Leites at -600 or anything... it's just that rawli is looney tunes and is taking a shot on what he sees as a nice, BIG, juicy doggy. :)

At this point, i dont even know if i can cheer for Leites b/c i know gardenweasel is planning a killing spree if Anderson loses. kurby

gee,i actually thought that cane fought an amazingly smart fight vs soudjoukou....

who in their right mind wants to stand and trade recklessly with this beast early in a fight?....lil nog and arona learned the hard way......

cane stayed away early...never really got caught with anything...he bided his time with some well placed punches and kicks...and waited for soudjoukou to tire.....

then dropped a bizzle on his arse.....

as i said, that fight was a lot different than i remembered it.

but let's be honest, GW, Sokoudjou is a quitter.

not mentally tough...and naturally, with that physique, has woeful cardio...which is why he`s perceived by some as a quitter...

as i`ve stated in here before,i don`t believe(in most cases)that weak cardio is a correctable flaw...

some guys just don`t have good cardio...it dogs them in tough fights throughout their careers......theres nothing they can do about it...it`s not much different than being short,or having a weak chin,or being a big puncher...

it`s physiological...you can tweak it...but only to a point.....

Good point. I never fully believed that until recently. Just seems some guys have it, some don't. It's my opinion that a drop in weight class would cure a lot of guys' cardio issues (a proper weight drop, of course.... not just water weight)

And layin.....Rua will make Lutter look like a tri-athlete during this fight. Chuck is on his way down, but he will beat the second most over-hyped fighter in MMA. Rua will lose. I mean the guy has the cardio of Betty White for fucks sake. After this fight Rua will go fight Kimbo at the nearest Quiznos parking lot.

kickserv loves underdogs, but he's all over the faves Anderson and Chuck. All over it like a fat kid on a twizzler.

funny post, btw :mj07:

I don't want to say Rua has no chance but I think he has very little chance as he couldn't finish Coleman until the VERY END so I see no chance at a Rua knockout and Chuck will get the better of any standup. Rua may try for a takedown but Chuck defends that VERY WELL. So I am left wondering how Shogun will win.

And by the way :nono: , Kimbo doesn't hang out around Quiznos since he got 175,000 for beating Tank, 250,000 for beating Thompson, and 500,000 for a tough loss to Seth. He is more of a Red Lobster guy.

let me say...i don`t disagree with someone taking big dogs.....i think it`s smart strategy in many instances...particularly in mma(where the chance of a sudden k.o. is so enhamced by the use of those little gloves and guys that can kick a beer can off the top of shaq`s head.....

i don`t disagree with taking a big dog if you think you have a shot.....

matter of fact,i can`t EVER recall taking a 5-1 fave.....bad habit to get into,imo...

if 5 dimes didn`t allow parlays,i`d be much more of an observer than a player...

i`m always watching for guys in here that think they can find some edge in taking a decent sized dog...

i think i came off a bit strongly...

i basically agree with what you`re doing,raw...

keep finding those live doggies....:toast:

kickserv likes doggies.........(yeah no shit) but this card is weird for me, I actually like lots of faves.

And poor Raw....I get bashed a bit for all the underdogs I take, but poor raw is getting destroyed for taking Leites.....poor guy:(

Oh and by the way Anderson is going to destroy Thales Leites:mj122:

And this may seem way outta wack but I think Leites has better chance of beating Anderson then Rua has at beating Chuck. Yep that's right I said it.

Rua has pretty much no chance at beating Chuck. I mean Chuck just has to run around the cage for round 1. Then in round 2 Rua will look like Lutter on lithium and it is good bye Rua. Of course his brother couldn't beat a guy last week who had 17 hours notice to fight, so he ain't gonna get any help from his brother either:142smilie

Rua and Kimbo at Red Lobster (or Quiznos) in the fall, you heard it here first, PPV will consist of garlic bread and breadsticks with a side of scallops. Then off to the parking lot to watch Rua and Kimbo.

Note: Prelim card for the PPV Red Lobster event consists of Ken Shamrock vs. Baroni.

Rua will get smoked.....:sadwave:

Thanks, GW... i know where you're coming from, and i respect your opinions.

The only posts that bother me are from people who fail to realize that, when i pick underdogs, i rarely EXPECT to win.. I'm not picking a straight-up winner, i'm investing in the big odds. It means i think the guy has a better chance than what the books think. I mean, Christ, i'm getting almost 4.5 to 1 odds for a reason... knowwhatimean, jellybean??

And make no mistake about it, my measly half-unit play is on Leites to win by sub. Do i think he has a chance in hell to win by decision or TKO? :director: HELL NO!

And for those who think Leites has zero chance... he's gonna get pulverized... has no chance of a submission b/c obviously Anderson is invincible to subs....... Do yourself a favor and put your house, your dog, your sister/brother/mother/cousin, your Rolex, your favorite spotted-belly toad, a full pack of juicy fruit, 37 bottles of champagne and 16 yachts on Anderson Silva... it's that simple, really. :thefinger

?When I fought (Mark) Coleman, like it or not I stayed almost a year and a half on the sidelines and that took a lot out of my training and conditioning. I can say that right now I?m feeling much more prepared physically and psychologically for this fight against Chuck (Liddell). Sometimes when we?re at home we get a little distracted and don?t push ourselves to the limit. So I think moving to a new place to train got me 100 percent focused on the fight and I can tell that I feel much more prepared and in condition for this fight.?

-Former PRIDE light heavyweight standout Mauricio Rua anticipates a full tank of gas for his long-awaited match against former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell at UFC 97 on Saturday, April 18, from The Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The word live dog comes to mind when I think of the fight between Kang and Professor X.
Kang is 3-4 in his last 7 fights and looked very poor last fight vs Belcher(who is no bum), but he made Kang look terrible.

In fact I have not liked how Kang has looked in his last 3 losses.

Professor X has looked awesome of late but against lesser opponents since his submission loss to Ninja a year and a half ago.

PLAY:
PROFESSOR X(+290) for 100

Don't listen to Kickserv on Kang because he always sticks by his countymen even if they are overrated. And that overrated Canadian list is a long one in MMA.

What about your other fellow countryman Loiseau.
I just don't trust either of these fighters right now but I think Short Fuse should take this one.

Ummm, Kang was destroying him, 10-9, 10-9 atleast, and some would argue that he might've had a 10-8 round before getting caught in the submission.

That's the problem. He gets too comfortable in fights and seems to let his guard down. That last fight in Japan he watched was a joke, he had no respect for the guys BJJ game. I like Kang but he might not be the sharpest fighter there is.

kegray...read above I like the crow to get it done in his home city, good to see him back in UFC.

Kang is opposite of Rashad. Rashad loses his fights then manages to win. Kang is winning his fights and then manages to lose. Although he did look good against Eastman. Kang will win in his home country he knows he needs to and he'll win:cool:

I never said Kang wasn't winning the fight with Belcher. I just said I thought he looked very poor for Kang's standards. Maybe it is because I thought he looked poor vs Mousasi and Akiyama(of course those 2 can make you look bad).
I am used to seeing Kang finish guys in under 5:00 minutes and he should have finished Belcher but didn't and lost for it.

This is the Denis Kang I expect and have not seen lately:
