I just come back from arrivals. Not much to tell from this one.
Pac. Looked great the same as he looked before Hatton fight. Fredy Roach was not as nearly confident as he was before Hatton fight. In fact, I was standing right in front of Freddy before Hatton fight and he was telling everyone that Pac will finish Hatton inside 3.
Cotto. Looked a bit drained. He looked better then Hatton before fight, but still he looked drained. He was all buisness, definetly don't give a f.. about fans.
All in all, I don't see anything that can translated in to advantage of Pac or Cotto.
After seeing arrivals, my opinion now 60/40 advantage to Cotto, before was 70/30 to Cotto.
But it is just my opinion.

I agree he does look drained but its from dropping weight. From what I hear tho, he is hitting harder than he was hitting when he was at the higher weight. I am from the hometown of cotto's sparring partner during the trainings on 24/7...kenny (local up and coming boxer that fights southpaw and about the same size as pac man) and he has trained with cotto before and said himself that he looks and is hitting great. I have always been a Cotto fan and might be bias but I am leaning cotto all the way.

Manny Pacquiao -215 Very Large
This play was made back on 7/22/09.

Pacquiao Vs. Cotto Under 9.5 -140 Large

Looking at Cotto's last fight against Clottey he cuts, gets hurt, and loses stamina more easily than in the past. I don't see Cotto losing like Hatton did to Pac-Man, but by the sixth or seventh round I think Cotto will have taken enough accumulated punishment that Kenny Bayliss, a good referee, will have seen enough to stop the fight. Remember if Clottey would just punched more in the late rounds Cotto would of been koed. Pacquiao will fight a fast pace the whole fight and with his blinding speed will give Cotto trouble.

Good Luck Guys!

everyone gets cut when you get headbutt tho. so I wouldn't take what happened in the clottey fight as cotto getting cut that easy. He has that defensive shell that everyone is forgetting about. Besides that cut against clottey...what other damage to his face did clottey inflict on cotto other than the cut caused by the headbutt?

Cotto looks a little ragged. Pacquiao looks fresh and iconic as ever. Jovial Pacquiao ready to lay down another shellacking on Saturday night.

Be advised there is a very large Philipino presence in the southern Nevada area. Also as we all are aware they are ultra passionate about there "demi-god" Pac-man. And they gamble; plus the public $$$ is coming in. As I stated before, I am betting on Manny going native on us WHEN Cotto tags him with a hard shot. Pac-man is one hot blooded sob and his macho mentality will kick in. That's at least one scenario, as I see it.

Cotto Prepares for Pacquiao

In broad terms, Saturday?s showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto shapes up as a classic clash of speed versus power.

Pacquiao, seeking a world title in a seventh weight class in the welterweight fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, has the speed.

Cotto, with his naturally larger frame, brings the power.

Just below that surface analysis, though, the most pressing question regarding the intriguing matchup concerns whether Cotto will suffer any lingering effects from his most recent fight, a viciously tough encounter with Joshua Clottey in June at Madison Square Garden.

Making the first defense of his WBO title, Cotto floored Clottey with a jab in the first round, but sustained a cut above his left eye in a clash of heads in Round 3.

His vision obscured by blood pouring out of the cut, Cotto rallied late in the 12-rounder and won a split decision.

Pacquiao supporters have suggested that Cotto could become the latest in a line of boxers who are never quite the same after one rugged night in the ring ? a sad truth in a sport that provides us with moments that are alternately sublime and brutally violent, or a combination of the two.

Any reading from the gospel according to Team Cotto, however, will push the theory that his experience with Clottey served to make Cotto stronger.

?If you ever saw somebody who fought with a huge cut over his eye and had to deal with the cut and an opponent in front of him and win the fight ... (these are) all the things I had to deal with in that fight,? Cotto said. ?I had a huge cut over my eye, I had a strong opponent in front of me and I was the winner of the fight.

?I learned how to deal with huge problems in a title fight.?

Cotto?s trainer, Joe Santiago, classified it as a valuable learning experience, one he could draw on Saturday night if the fight with Pacquiao develops into another grueling 12-rounder.

?It was a team effort and everyone did their part,? Santiago said. ?I think the preparation was good and on the night of the fight we were all doing what we were supposed to do. This time around I think we are all going to be better for it.?

Both men alluded to pride in their Puerto Rican heritage in discussing Cotto?s ability to fight through adversity.

Cotto is cognizant of his role as the newest addition to a roster of accomplished Puerto Rican boxers that includes champions in multiple weight divisions such as Wilfred Benitez, Wilfredo Gomez and Felix Trinidad.

?This will be a great victory for Miguel, and a great victory for Puerto Rico,? Santiago said.

Cotto and Pacquiao each claim they would be comfortable either acting as the aggressor or adopting a strategy based on counterpunching, depending on how the fight unfolds.

No one on either side of the fight questions the potency of Cotto?s left hook, the most dangerous tool in his repertoire.

A natural southpaw, Cotto fights from an orthodox stance, which makes him a switch-hitter of sorts and adds some extra oomph to his hook.

?With Miguel, his money punch is the left hook,? said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters. ?That was Oscar De La Hoya?s money punch when he fought Manny, but Oscar wasn?t fast enough to get that punch through. Manny?s speed completely flummoxed Oscar. As far as doing the same to Cotto, it may be possible, but to me it?s unlikely.?

Pacquiao?s trainer, Freddie Roach, continuing to forecast an ?easy? win for his fighter, thinks Cotto could still be feeling a hangover from the Clottey fight as well as his loss to Antonio Margarito last year.

?It takes time to come back,? Roach said. ?Some people never come back.

I am still looking at this fight

I feel I have one strong play only though.

Its a tough fight to call.

You also have to be thinking about Floyd Jr and how the future fight and paydays may affect this fight outcome.

It can be a slippery slope.

So Cal
Don't post much here but a daily reader and hats off to all you guys here - you really know your stuff.

I do take long and close looks at tapes and such. I don't see Cotto getting much in the way of a clear, straight up shot at Pac. I believe Pac's speed, footwork and angles will make him tough to hit and perhaps frustrate Cotto. I can't see Cotto bullying Pac or forcing him into the ropes or corner. His body work will be compromised in my opinion because the angles won't be right.

Roach can't be underestimated. I think Pac respects him so much that it is a big motivating factor. I was lucky enough to see most of Freddy's fights. He wasn't a top ten candidate but he had the heart of a lion. Any Roach fight was worth watching.

I agree with you there. I say roach is one of the top trainers in the game and will capitalize on cottos mistakes. Roach studies tapes and looks for common mistakes or as he would say " bad habits" and executes. I just don't think its going to be the cake walk that he is making it out to be for pac man.
