It took a whole day, but the media finally seems to be catching on to the Miles possibility....the talking heads, finally free from the Vick saga yesterday have been going back and forth regardling Miles....Mike/Mike killed him and so did Skip Bayless for being a liar and so forth.

My take, if you have angered Bayliss, you're doing something good....that guys is a fool.

If the sides were trying to keep this queit, that is not going happen for much longer now that the espn "bloodhounds" are on the case. They'll be ripping UM and Miles non stop.

Miles is pi$$ing me off. Hell, just go already you selfish fawk. He wants his cake and eat it too. Either stay or go, but quit lying to recruits and current players in order to stay at LSU til 1/8 before jumping to Mich. He knows that this is his last viable shot for a title in the next several years and is allowing that to delay his dream of coaching at his Alma Mater.

Now the players have to hear the Miles to Mich rumors over the next 4 weeks while prepping for a freakin' shot at the national title. To continue to speak out of both sides of his mouth can do nothing but hurt this team and the recruiting class.

Cie, who do you think would coach the NC game if Miles decided he wanted to take the UM job before January 8th? Half out the door Pelini? Or does LSU just bite the bullet and have Les coach?

Is that not the single biggest hold up to this? Whether or not he can still coach in the title game?

If he gets an inkling that he's going to become LSU's Bill Frieder (ha ha ha, I am sure some LSU folks, and even Sun Tzu, would probably say he already is!!!!), my bet is that he sticks around and passes on UM.

LSU is in a tough spot regarding that given the Pellini situation. Gary Crowton maybe?

Anyway, getting to the original point...CWood do you see a bigger sticking point to this than the title game....i know Lloyd's involvement was a problem, but surely UM can take care of that. Lloyd's not going to meddle with the team, I just dont see that happening.

Lying isnt anew thing to Gump. He was telling anyone that would listen he wasnt leaving Okie State while he was negotiating with LSU.

I think it is absolutely true that Gump wants his cake and eat it too...he is trying to walk a fine line to coach AND get the Michigan job. I did post awhile back that there was some talk of "Friedering" him if he was going to UM and that is why he had the presser and so on.

Miles is hoping he can drag this out 3 more weeks. I dont think he can pull it off. If Michigan hasnt hired somebody by the end of this week it will be quite transparent.

Going to be fitting justice when Tressel beats his ass and then continues to do so for years to come.

Exactly. My concern is that his odds of defeating Tressel are low to begin with, and even lower with an distracted team which has already proven to be prone to mental lapses......

I would bet Crowton as interim. LSU allowed Saban to coach as a lame duck and LSU played poorly and lost on a blown coverage on the last play of the game vs. Iowa....

C'mon Cie....i am sure Iowa was the more talented team! :142smilie I recall that game fondly, that was back in my 'win money on Iowa every week' phase of my life.....that game was a big big big win for me, and the cover was already won before that hail mary......man did KF have a pointspread monster going there for awhile....good times!

Seriously, has their been any real news about this down your way yet....i am sure there is the standard talk radio ya da ya da ya da going on, but anything of substance as you hear it?

Up north.....its been real quiet.....our "media" has been too busy on the Lions meltdown or ripping UM for being outbid by Rutgers to really hit the pavement and get us actual news.

I am hearing that there is a total communications lock down up at Fort Schembelcher.....more so than usual, so I dont think our lazy media has a chance of getting anything.

It appears UM is ready to wait it out for Les while building a new list of "backup" guys.

If Les wants the job he is going to have to continue to walk a fine line for a month with the media. Tough sledding, but possible.

I haven't heard anyhting down here. Local talk radio will pick up now that ESPN is on it.

Miles is running around telling anyone who will listen, including boosters, local media, players and recruits, that he and his family are happy here, and that they will not be going to Ann Arbor. Meanwhile, he is telling the rest of the world, including Dan Patrick and others, the opposite.

Miles is scheduled to be on Outside the Lines today sometime after 3pm.

Are you saying the job is his if he can withstand the media scrutiny and has no problem saying "i'm not leaving" knowing that he is?

Sounds like UM feels he's their next coach until he says otherwise or if something else happens.

IMO, if LSU says you're with us or someone else is coaching on 1/8, that he will say no thanks to UM.....most coaches would not walk away from the title game.

I'll have to watch OTL on replay later tonight. Should be interesting to hear what he says.

Ah yes, the staff completely blows the clock management on that play. They should have called a timeout. However, by not calling the timeout, the LSU defense doesn't realize that time is running out, so the dback attempts to cut off the route to the sideline, but Holloway keeps going on a fly pattern to the endzone. The dback's busted coverage leaves a huge gap, Tate hits Holloway for the touchdown, the first of his career and he was a fifth year senior, and Iowa wins in a miracle. Saban goes to the Fins.

You're right Toledo, those Iowa teams covered almost every game for three years. It was amazing. The funny thing is that when it turned it was the exact opposite for two years, they never won.

The LSU fans seated across the isle from me at the Citrus Bowl couldn't believe that Iowa didn't take a timeout there. But thats just the M.O. of the most talented group of coaches in the country...

What do we make of the statements coming from Miles today that yes he talked to UM last week, but only as an allumnus who wanted to help with the coaching search. He says he's not a candidate.

True? Or is this the line he's going to be using for the next four weeks?

Thats the biggest load of BS I have ever heard. maybe he wont be the Michigan coach, but the notion that was the call might be the worst lie in coaching history.

I am sure he is pissed that this leaked as well and is countering the backlash.

I agree....yeah, sure you were just helping them with their search, and by helping them with their search, you mean agreeing to be their new coach unless LSU draws a line in the sand and does not allow you to have my cake and eat it to!

Maybe I am reading too much into the speculation, some of CWood insights and how other coaching searches have played out.....but it sure seems like he's taking the job unless LSU says then you cant coach in the title game or all this media crush gets to him and cant in his heart keep the charade going.

I'd say the former, rather than later is more likely to happen.

This is not an endorsement of him as UM's guy, but I will believe he is not the guy when UM annoucnes a head coach.

I don't know what this idiot is going to do, but Miles is unquestionably making Michigan look like a bunch of fools for the time being...........

"I had a conversation with Michigan last week that covered a wide range of topics. I was doing nothing more than helping them with their search for a football coach, just as any loyal alumnus might do. It was nothing more than that," Miles said.

"I'm not a candidate for that job and I will not be a candidate for the job. I was only assisting them in their search for a coach," he added. "I have a great job at a wonderful place, a place that my family calls home. It's time that Michigan goes on with their search for a football coach.

"I'll say it again, I'm going to be the coach at LSU next season."

Too bad for LSU...
