Cie, good insight on that OL recruit....UM's OL sucks....so maybe....ha ha ha.

Anyway, I understand your worries, for sure, especially w/ the other West upgrades......but thats why it would be in everyone's best interest to just announce it now.....LSU could give the line I proposed to recruits, while looking for a HC.....maybe they see the writing on the wall and are behind the scenes doing something, who knows.....but if they really expect Miles to be there and he is being tightlipped afraid of being "Freidered" then he is doing them a huge disservice as far as finding the next coach.

I just dont think it would a huge deal or even all that distracting if Miles just said, 'yeah, I'm going to UM." He could focus on winning one more game at LSU, the school could tell the recruits, hey we're still great, look at our record, and all the while get into the coaching derby.

I really do think Michigan's silence in all of this is pretty telling.

Would Crowton be a legit option as full time HC.

Then again, maybe all this is a waste of time. Maybe Miles was being truthful yesterday!?!?!

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give that a 5 that Miles was telling the truth.....would you go higher or lower w/ that number.....I say 5, which means I just never know to believe a coach or not in that spot.....we've seen that lip service before.

I believe Miles:shrug:

Crowton as the next HC, I sure hope not. He had some success at LaTech, but BYU tanked under him........ 12-2 1st season, 14-21 the next 3.

Cie,
Part of me wants to believe him, part of me knows to believe a coach in this spot is naive.....i stick by my 5, but thought about raising it a 7 or so based on your insight.

Anyway.....hot names du jour include Jim Grobe, Wake coach, and KC Keeler, coach of the Delaware Blue Hens.

The Hens of course have the same helmet and play Appy State this weekend, so I am sure some people will be able to make the easy joke.

Maybe I am biased based on the success of the sweatervest, but I'd much rather see UM grab a successful guys from the lower ranks of college than a NFL guy. With NFL guys, everyone is looking for the next Carroll, but nobody out there looks any good.....the NFL gives us bad football it seems every week, that I am disinterested in most of their coaches.

Grobe could do well. He is an extremely fundamentally sound football coach/teacher and this long time watcher of UM can say the past year + has been some of the least fundamentally sound Wolverine teams in years.

I am still bewildered as to why they're not even considering Brian Kelly.Thats just foolish, in my opinion.

I am aware of 2 recruits, one on the OL which is a big hole on the roster, which will definitely not sign w/ LSU if Miles leaves. I say no big deal to the loss of a couple of recruits, but not if the next HC candidate is an unproven coordinator, which would likely be the case.

Bobby Petrino is lost to Arky based on Miles' claims this week that Michigan should move on with their search. Until then, Petrino appeared to be waiting in the wings until 1/8/07.

If it turns out as we all suspect, that Miles' recent proclamation was simply an effort to call off the dogs until after the BCS title game, then it will be a disaster for LSU because of the lack of available candidates so late in the game.

SEC West: Arky upgrades HC, Ole Miss upgrades HC, Auburn upgrades OC. LSU picks upa bottom-feeder HC despite making it to the Nat'l title game. :com:

Disagree disagrree Arky HC is not an upgrade its a neutral move for Arky. He will be there 2 years at best then hes going somewhere else.

Petrino has had 5 interviews in 5 years. Hes a freakin quitter. I would have more respect for him if he finished out the final 3 Falcon games and then quit. It was a sinking ship and he bailed. Thank God Miles didnt go to Michigan and this guy come to LSU. If your an Arkt fan you better buy some stock in U-Haul because they will get plenty of business with Petrino.

I would take Crowton over Petrino any day of the week. Leave Crowton as OC and hopefully if Miles leave we can get someone that knows what the fawk they are doing..

If you can get Wake Forrest's Jim Grobe, get him. He's a damn good football coach and could do very well at Michigan.

I like Grobe.....i think winning the ACC at Wake is comparable to winning the Big 10 at Northwestern....he knows what he is doing and he had WF in the hunt again.....if he stays at WK I really do not think this is not a short term trend, I think he's created a program that can compete annually in that league......sure, it took him awhile, but thats to be expected.

My Michigan brethern--remember at least half of whom cant seem to ever see past Miles--feel highlighting Grobe's accomplishments at Wake is dubious because the ACC is a weak league. I disagree.....any coach who can lead WF to consecutive wins over Florida State, can coach my favorite team any time.

I say compare what he's done w/ less depth and a rash of injuries--especially last season--to what UM did this year when they were in the same injury predicament....WK steamed along because they were well coached; Michigan did not because fundamentals aren't being coached and they put their eggs in the starters' basket.

Grobe's teams get offensive contributions from a lot of players, are among the best tackling teams in their league, play great special teams, run interesting, unique offensive sets....and because of their "talent" deficiency apper to game plan each week for specific opponents....folks, michigan never seens to gameplan as they run their usual stuff and say "stop us." As a long time season ticket holder, I sure wish we'd see some more gameplanning acumen from our sideline.

So, I am for Grobe.....most of Michigan brothers, though, are going to cry holy heck about it.

This is about as queit this search has been the last weeks.....I wonder what that means?

Is nothing going?
Is it a calm before a whirlwind of news?
Is it quiet while UM waits for LSU to play the title game?
Is it quiet while UM waits for the NFL season to end?

We'll see.

New rumors circulating the world wide web include:
--Continual pushing of Brady Hoke as the guy.
--Belief thats is not going to be Les only when someone other than Les is annonced.
--English already hired. Debord assistant HC/OC
--Mariucchi is holding off on the UCLA gig waiting for UM to contact him.
--And the usual round of names being tossed around from Kiffin to Sarkisian to Lewis to Grobe to Pinkell and so forth.

Note nobody is reporting any of this, its just a sampling of whats out there among the various message boards and such....more discussion and ranting than anything else.

Rumor du Jour:

This takes the cake especially given where I live....UM is meeting with Rich Rodriguez in good ole Toledo Ohio to talk about being the next head coach.

I'll let you guys know if I see Rich Rod anywhere, okay! :142smilie

I know, its just message board stuff, but anytime Toledo gets mentioned I beam w/ pride. Although I am dropping somebody off at the local airport tonight, if i see him there, I will certainly post it. :mj07:

On a serious note, anybody else heard anything concrete about whats going on? I'm also reading that Lane Kiffin has been contacted.

here's something tp...

here's something tp...

Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe continues to be mentioned as a possible candidate to succeed Lloyd Carr, who is retiring as Michigan coach. Last week, Grobe was approached by Arkansas officials about the coaching job that eventually went to former Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino. Asked during a visit to Charlotte Thursday if he had been contacted by anyone associated with Michigan, Grobe said, "It's gone on with Nebraska. It's gone on with Arkansas. Now it's going on with Michigan. I've just got to get out of all that stuff. There's no comment I can make that helps the situation. "The only thing I can say is the important thing for me right now is to be focused on Wake Forest and trying to play UConn in a bowl game and get us a win. "I don't know how to respond to that stuff anymore. It takes on a life of its own, whether you're interested or not interested. Schools do their own searches. You never know where you are in those things. "I can't stop the rumors," Grobe said. -- Charlotte Observer

Apparently, Rich Rod is more than rumor....papers and talk radio are reporting the meeting.....all going on under my nose, in my hometown.

So, is this leigt? CWood....any thoughts?

UM fans, and really anyone else? Can you see this happening? Good fit for UM? He does have a $4 milliion buyout....ouch.....i know if UM ponies up the cash for that the Les Miles or Bust camp would be a bit miffed.

RichRod's rep contacted UM the day after Lloyd retired and informed UM of his interest in the job. Michigan was not interested in him initially. Either there was a change of heart or perhaps Rodriguez wanted a chance to explain his way out of some of the concerns that were initially expressed on UM's end. I heard that the Noel Devine recruitment was one BIG concern of UM's.

It's possible this will happen, but honestly I would be surprised if Michigan did an about face and put on the full court press for RR.

or Jimbo Fisher

or Jimbo Fisher

My wife went to school at Salem with Jimbo and Jeff Bowden and she thinks it would be Jimbo.

For the record I countered with Terry Bowden when she asked who I thought it could be.

I still see no reason for Rod to leave, he has nearly built WVU into the program we all think the Michigan, Alabama, Ohio st, USC, Florida (insert your favorite team) are already considered to be the cream of the crop football programs.

He could have been playing for the BCS championship this season, No reason he won't be in the hunt next season with WVU.

Money--- I know we all want all we can get, but he has been a Mountaineer fan all his life and had dreams of taking over this program since he started coaching. Don Nehlen still has near god status with Mountaineer fans.

We'll see but I think he would be Crazy to leave now.

At least one credible UM source saying its a done deal......

Wow, thats amazing information.....this came out of the blue today.......in your gut, do you feel there's a new coach, on a 1 to 10 scale, how confident are you about this as a done deal? Curious as to what your personal thoughts on the matter are? I'm not sure what to think right now.....Ryan Mallett as Pat White, uh, is not computing in my head....maybe after a beer or two it might!!!

9.5 out of ten.

Don't be surprised if Terrell Pryor comes with RichRod. In that case, Mallett will transfer.
