Fiji 19 - USA 18

A great game of rugby :D

USA needed a kick from the sideline to win the match but it wasn't to be

Onto the next game. There is storm about to hit Canberra and should interupt the game at some point, so wherever possible take an unders total now as it will only shorten.

First of all, let me thank Pumpkin. I clicked into this thread minutes before the Italian game, and had it not been for your info, I would not have bet the Under 49.5 points. As it turned out, I sneaked home, but had it not rained before the match, I think we would have seen more points, as there were a lot of handling errors. This meant we got the under, despite the anticipated storm not hitting during the match. Thanks again Pumpkin.....you have been a great contributuor to the thread so far!!

I enjoyed the rugby today. It was nice to see some competitive matches. I really felt for the U.S.A this morning. They hammered Fiji up front, and had they had a reliable fly half (the new Italian number ten for example), they would have won this game! Their veterans in the forwards were superb throughout, and we were a few inches away from coverting a 5/1 gamble with the missed kick in the end. I hope this can launch rugby in the USA, as with their population, they ought to be able to field a team capable of beating anybody. It was not long ago that soccer was a minority sport, so why cant rugby take off as well?? I would be interested to find out what TV coverage you get of your teams games over there. Please let me know.

Sadly crooky we get little to no coverage of the US team here in the states. I checked the listings for ESPN and ESPN2 but no rugby was to be found. They did have lawn mower racing on. That just goes to show you where rugby ranks in the collective minds of the American public. Sometimes you can find rugby televised on smaller, local sports channels but that is usually late at night. Rugby is far behind soccer in gaining popularity here. A lot of people play on club teams in college but that seems to be about it. New Zealand, England and the rest of the powerhouses should not be sweating the Eagles any time soon.

Thanks Kick,

I've read about SI and it doesn't sound good - anyway they have switched on and now have the line at 80.5 so the earn is no longer there.

The SportsInteraction line was definitely there last night, as I was surprised that they were only asking New Zealand to concede seventy points.

New Zealand vs Canada

Not much to say about this game, but to expect it to be ugly. Fourteen part time rugby players against the best players in the world. This is a mismatch of the highest proportions.
Expect a scoreline of eighty points at least.

1 Point New Zealand (-77) at 9/10 with BetDirect

New Zealand 68-6 Canada

A very frustrating spread loss. The All Blacks refusal to play at a high intensity for 80 minutes meant that backers had no chance of the All Blacks covering. Canada put up a good enough challenge, but I was shocked at how poor the All Blacks were. I may be about to stir up some controvesy, and true it was only Canada in front of them, but they failed to impress me, and failed big time. They seemed to have no shape, made error after error, and turned more ball over than Liz Taylor has had husbands. This should not happen against a team of part time rugby players. Time to worry if you are a Kiwi I can tell you.

Back later with tomorrows games. Back to winning way tomorrow... ;)

Australia vs Romania

Romania surprised myself and probably everybody else with their performance against Ireland. Strong up front, they caused the Irish plenty of problems, and they will have to continue that intensity to compete with the Aussies.
Perhaps the defining factor, in making a play on this game, is the fact that a lot of people are on the Wallabies backs. It has been a long time since we saw a faultless display from a Australian team, and the fact that coach Eddie Jones has picked his strongest fifteen, suggests that this is the game they have targeted for a faultless showing. It will be the first time for a while that Romania have faced this calibre of opposition, and it will be very difficult. Taking into account their best player from the game against the Irish misses out, Petru Balan, means that if the Aussies win the battle up front, then the tries will come in hatfuls from the backs.

1 Point Australia (-58) at 10/11 with SportingOdds

England vs South Africa

Probably the game of the World Cup so far. However, it is debatable as to whether these teams are as close as people think. The Springboks performances in the tri-nations this season, showed they are still below the top tier of teams in world rugby at the moment.
Much will be made of the losses of Richard Hill, and Matt Dawson, but the reailty is that England were my outright selection due to their immense strength in depth. These players are replaced by Kyran Bracken and Lewis Moody, and both will be able deputies.
The Boks on the other hand have still a lot to prove, and the English will be far more prepared for this game than the Boks, as England have had a settled team for a good while, whilst the Boks have been chopping and changing all year.
England by 20 points plus.

2 Points England (-14) at 4/5 with BetDirect

Passing over the France-Japan game. Lean towards France as the Japanese will have to match their performance and a little more to keep the score down against the French.

England
Record now 6/3 +6.6pts

Only got time for a quick post (got to do Zurich stuff too)

Tomorrows games:

3pts Romania (+63) Coral v Australia - going to upset PAWA again + going against Crooky again too. I had this game in for nearer 50, Romania didn't look a bad side against Ireland - maybe they were flattered but 63 is a lot of points to get - the weather forecast isn't too clever either.

2pts England (-14.5) SuperOdds v S.Africa - the Boks are going to have to do a lot more than stuff Uruguay (form hardly been franked by the performance against Samoa!!) to convince me that they are back to anywhere near their old form. England will be more than ready for this - I think it'll be a very rough game + I think England are better mentally prepared for that kind of fight. England by 20+

had France game at 55 so no bet there.

In case I get no time to post again other weekend plays are:

2pts Ireland (-63) v Namibia (Bet365)
3pts Georgia (+40) v Samoa (Bet 365) - far too many for a team that's already played once this week!

good luck
hoss:D

One other bet - back Bradford (-4) v Wigan in the Super League Grand Final - (loads of firms are -4 handicap inc Ladbrokes and Stan James) - really fancy this one big time - Bradford had a week off whilst Wigan were beating Leeds by 1pt to qualify. The Bulls have been head + shoulders above the rest of the league this season + have the players all over the park who can win this. Wigans main man Andy Farrell has been carrying a knock for a few weeks now + has lost his right hand man, Adrian Lam, to injury. Get on:D

the land of confusion
Not upsetting me Hoss as I think the Aussies will struggle to cover this number. I'm taking the points myself.

Good tipping fellas. You've helped me to 6-1 so far with your extra advice.

Keep on rollin......

England, u.k.
Here you go Gareth, I will post in this thread my rugger plays when I can. I played these on Friday morning.

Not inpressed with Australia's performance in game one so I recommend 1.5 pts on Romannia @ +63 over Australia.

I think South Africa are more than capable of covering the spread of 17.5 points over England. If England build up big enough lead the likes of Johnson, Wilkinson and Back will be replaced to save from injury. England have two goals in this game, win and stay injury free. As I am patriotic I will not bet against my fellow country men on this occassion.

1.5 points France -51.5 to beat Japan @ 9/10 Gamebookers.
Ignore the margin of vctory by Scotland over Japan. Scotland have been pathetic in the international arena in the last 2 years and this French pack will over power Japan. They will limit Japan to very little worthwhile possession and terrioty. France culminated 61 points against a tougher tackling Fiji side and with Japan conceding 43 points to Russia and 69 points to the USA earlier this year, I expect France to win this by 60+ points.

I have only one play for tonight anf that is SAf at the plus. The English are playing well but Saf have been setting themselves for this game for a long time.

It was not too long ago the the Boks had NZ on the ropes and there record in Subiaco is quite good beating Australia once and drawing once. These were both low scoring games and I expect the same tonight so take the under
