I just don't see it Lay. U have made me a fan of Shoguns but there are two many if's for my taste and if this gets around -150 i will take Jones. Lots of guys have said that Jones left himself vulnerable against Vera and this is true but if we knew this don't ya think Jones does? I think even Rogan mention this. 2nd the knee. Shogun can't come to the weighin soft or this would be a red flag to me. Third the athleticism of Jones and his strong Greco Roman wrestling would scare the hell out of me if i was betting Shogun. On 24-7 i think Jones camp slipped with having a shot of Diego watching practice and saying "u take him down Bones u win the fight". That is exactly what i would tell Bones to do and that is what i think Jackson will be telling him. Shogun is gonna have to get up all fight long. If Shogun was a more crisp Boxer i might take a shot but his punches are looping and if he didn't have that granite chin those looping punches would be a disaster for him. If it doesn't get to -150 i will be rooting along with ya. I like both guys but it would be better for the UFC if Shogun won in my opinion.

scrounging for stuff now that all my big possibilities have fallen through....you don`t get that many opportunities throughout the year that you fele real strongly about....i had 3 in the space of a few weeks and they all fell through.....

sooooo...picking at scraps...i`m admittedly reaching...

torn on the mike pyle/almeida fight...played mike pyle at +150...almeida is hot and cold...he can be very tough(choking out marquardt)...or throw in a clunker(ala the hughes debacle)....

he has home court here in jersey(as do pellegrino and catone)....and pyle has 16 out of 20 wins via submission...i doubt that he subs almeida...so how does he win?...

i don`t know...how the hell did he grind hathaway into dust?....still shocked by his domination in that fight..

i don`t love this play...pyle has had lots of holes in his game ....but he looked completely different vs hathaway....amazing actually...like a different guy.....on the roids?.....is hathaway overrated?...i don`t know...

opinions?...more info welcome...

looking at barboza itd(-150)...i broke down and opened a bogus facebook acct just to see barboza again with those richter scale kicks....only to find out later that this was on spike...

maybe schaub itd...imo,crocop hasn`t looked good in years...

parlay material looks like benavides definitely.....maybe marquardt(this is gonna be tougher than many believe, imo),

looking for a bounceback from cane(finally fighting an orthodox fighter again)his job may depend on it.......still thinking...

freire and larkin in bellator...

looking hard at more props...

I don't even see this one being close. Why all the love for Rua? The only reason he is champ is because the UFC wanted to make some money off his contract while his knee was still in one piece.

thats why his road to the title went loss- rebound win against Coleman (lol) and a KO of Chuck Lidell who shouldn't have really been fighting.

But for some reason this mediocre performance deserved a title shot (which he lost).

Jones, on the other hand, has just been eating people.

Copied from the Feb His sprawl is EXCELLENT because of his length and the way he leans while standing. If he's taken down it will have to be from the clinch which is where Shogun excels.

He excels in striking from the clinch but not defending against the tricky judo throws and trips that Jones employs. There is no way Shogun keeps this off the ground, especially since he has been training for Rashad Evans.

Rua got a title shot because he did the same thing that Jones has done except his list was that of bigger named guys. He got a re match because most everyone that mattered thought he won the first time. He beat a guy that nobody thought would be beat for a long time.

Shogun has speed and power that you don't see a lot. He uses both his hands and feet to do damage not just score points. We know Shogun's game, we don't know all of Jones game yet. How will he handle it if he gets tagged and hurt? Maybe he doesn't get hit, he hasn't so far. I'm not saying Jones won't win because he is a tremendous talent. I just think for where the price is Rua is the correct play.

.....

.....

To be fair Rua has looked very good in his last couple of fights. Then again he is coming off ANOTHER knee injury. I think he losses because it's a bad styles matchup, not because he's not a good fighter.

i`ve read opinions from other boards and i`m really shocked to see around a 4 or 5 to 1 ratio leaning toward rua....

i really don`t understand why jones is being dismissed....

one guy was talking about all the difficulty the "uncoordinated" jones had with bader...how he had trouble taking him down etc...

i was like "what?" ...that was total domination...at the end, bader ended up pulling guard he was so frustrated....

a high level div 1 wrestler pulling guard because he couldn`t do anything else...

maybe it`s just the concept of looking at the great shogun rua...an icon...a champion...getting decent + odds vs a virtual neophyte?........those rua kicks on those skinny legs could be a game changer...

i think cardio might be the wildcard...jones faded vs bonnar...and rua`s cardio looked ??? vs griffin and coleman...

should be a good one...

No actually he won that title shot and pretty much got ripped off. he got that title shot because a lifetime body of work made him deserve it. Still think he loses but i doubt he goes down easy.

Is that people at fan forums who like shogun to win? or is it people saying they will take shogun at +150 or whatever

i really don`t understand why jones is being dismissed....

I agree, I think the UFC is all about hype, Dana used to be a boxing promoter so he knows whats up.

Jones deserved a title shot (or atlest #1 contender shot) a while ago. But he is virtually unknown except to serious MMA fans, so he wouldn't sell PPVs. They used the DQ "loss" gave them an excuse while they gave Shogun a shady title shot.

They even offered this title shot to rampage first but he declined.

one guy was talking about all the difficulty the "uncoordinated" jones had with bader...how he had trouble taking him down etc...

i was like "what?" ...that was total domination...at the end, bader ended up pulling guard he was so frustrated....

Are these MMA analysts or people trying to justify a bet on Shogun? haha

a high level div 1 wrestler pulling guard because he couldn`t do anything else...

Yea he has handled all the top tier wrestlers at 205. I know wresterls aren't good off their backs but they shouldn't atleast be able to prevent takedowns, which no one has come close to doing.

maybe it`s just the concept of looking at the great shogun rua...an icon...a champion...getting decent + odds vs a virtual neophyte?........those rua kicks on those skinny legs could be a game changer...

thats the thing, if they give him credit for being the "champ", why not give credit to Jones for having the linesmaker back him.

The UFC is now backing Jones as the "future" because they have a feeling he is going to win. But they would have loved Rampage vs Shogun which would have sold big. Plus they don't want to pay Rampage ect.. the big contracts and not headline cards.

i think cardio might be the wildcard...jones faded vs bonnar...and rua`s cardio looked ??? vs griffin and coleman...

should be a good one...

I really like Jones here, I don't even see cardio being an issue. I don't see it going more than 2 rounds.

True i agree he should have won the fight, but he wasn't exactly dominating. And he was fighting a good stylistic matchup for him. Jones' style should gice him big problems.

I don't see how he can prevent Jones from taking it on the ground, and when on the ground not get pounded out.

He could catch Jones coming in, but either way I think the fight is over quick. No way Jones will stand and trade with him.

Yea I like what GSP said. Jones is really confident and it doesn't seem false either. He has been really well prepared for his fights and I think that is why he is confident here, too.
