Okay sports, if an officer stops you on the street and arbitrarily asks for some i.d. without cause, and the person asks, "am I suspected of committing a crime and if not I choose not to give you my i.d. and be on my way", the officer responds with, "I'm asking for your I.D. you need to comply".
"Am I being detained for something, because unless you say I am and give state the probable cause for my detention, I'm going to keep moving as allowed me by the constitution of the United States".

"All I want is to see your identification"

Who had broken the law already? Who has super powers in that scenario, anyone?
So if I exercise my civil rights and liberties and don't freely waive my rights, and this turns into an altercation and arrest or I get killed, you're answer to that is I should have complied? Not that the officer who clearly broke the law, violated my rights, used excessive force, usurped the constitution, and clearly violated all aspects of his oath of office should be excused. Maybe suspended for a week?

Meanwhile, I'm dead because I have rights and had the nuts to exercise them, when they should have never been denied me and should be afforded to all citizens without fail. That's your solution?

Here is where you and I differ......I have the attitude of "I have nothing to hide and respect the laws" here's my ID and I go about my day.....

You feel your rights are being violated, fair enough they are.....What I don't understand is why can't people just explain their rights if they feel violated, take down the Officers Name/Badge # and file a complaint and move on.....

I get more bent out of shape from the career criminal being allowed on the streets harassing people than I do from showing my ID to a Cop, but that's just me......:0008

The law of the land is that they're equitably applied to all citizens including police

The solution starts with identifying all aspects of the problem and denying that police overextending their authority, or racial profiling amongst law enforcement isn't part of it isn't realistic.

I don't get people. They'll come unglued and ready to put Tom Brady in jail over some incredibly thin and organic texts, call for the imprisonment of a presidential candidate over emails even after they've been told by the FBI there was no evidence of criminal activity, treat Pete Rose like a pariah for doing the sane thing they do all the time, but question a police officers motives in an execution seen on video and holy shit. Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard

Than you're complicit, don't you get that? Why is this so hard to understand. It's the officers DUTY to know and PROTECT THE CITIZENS RIGHTS, NOT VIOLATE THEM KNOWINGLY. I shouldn't have to inform him, I shouldn't have to be violated in any way. What if your a woman and he says show me your i.d. and blow me. You think it doesn't happen?

Look, when you willingly surrender your rights, soon enough they will be taken and no longer a right. As witnessed by the law Texas recently had declared unconstitutional by the supreme court that allowed for illegal detention and searches.

Like I said before, AUTHORITY PERVERTS ALL WHO POSSESS IT, it's just a matter of time. If nobody stands up for their rights, they'll lose them. That's an absolute certainty.

If you have nothing to hide, and it takes less than 10 seconds to retrieve your ID then just comply. The whole transaction will take less than 10 minutes.

Our first order of business starts with teaching our citizens to comply so we can at least make it home to make our complaints about the illegal tactics by the cops.

That is the worst idea yet. So you're saying that giving those that already abuse their power, the one thing they're supposed to know is basic civil rights, you're saying we should educate the masses to succumb to abuse of power and then write a complaint? How did that work out for Dylan Thomas (not positive that's correct name), The guy in Minnesota, Rodney King, and the list goes on forever. Dead men can't write. I'm sorry but this is stunning to me. You actually prefer to give up the bill of rights and just give another human being full authority over you and have a police state?

Sorry bro, but that's not ever going to happen in the U.S.

Funny to read how hard it is to comply with a police officer, the last time I was pulled over, I was speeding, if I got a ticket, I would've deserved it, I complied with officer with COURTESY and COMPLIED to his questions, as a result I got a WARNING, end of story.

Not sure if it's okay to do a cut and paste here... but this is from a retired teacher friend.

A YOUNG BLACK MAN THAT I HAD TAUGHT MATH PREVIOUSLY STOPPED BY TO SEE ME.
1) He was taking a Criminal Justice course at UTA.
2) He told me he had learned so much of crap that police do that they are not supposed to do.
3) He told me his professor had told them that they didn't have to show a drivers license and proof of insurance.
4) He said he was not going to show his anymore if he gets stopped for something.
5) I tried to convince him in the short time I had to talk to him that he was asking for trouble and to just do what he was asked to do.
6) I've always told our children NEVER ARGUE WITH A POLICE OFFICER. DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD TO DO.
7 ) I TOLD THEM ABOUT PUTTING THEIR HANDS WHERE A POLICE OFFICER COULD SEE THEM. NEVER REACH FOR ANYTHING UNTIL THE POLICE OFFICER SAYS YOU CAN. IF IT IS AT NIGHT, TURN ON AN INSIDE LIGHT OF YOUR CAR.
8) I follow that same advice. I used to drive about 70,000 miles per year and got a fair amount of speeding tickets.
9) NOT ONE SINGLE TIME DID I EVER ARGUE WITH A POLICEMAN. I WAS GUILTY EVERY TIME. THE POLICEMAN WAS JUST DOING HIS JOB.
10) I blame Obama, the liberal professors, the media, the politicians, the black activists.
11) They have created a hate in the young blacks for our Police.
12) The Police don't get a chance to present their point of view and what it is like to know that every day you go to work could be the day you die.
13) I along with millions of other people support these people who risk their lives to keep us safe.
14) It's time to hold those who cause this shit to pay the price for their incendiary speech.

Part of the problem here is young men are now taught to stand their ground. I would teach the opposite. Comply first to save your life, then go through the proper channels to complain.

Fine. Do that. That's your decision but don't diminish another human beings death by dismissing the unlawfulness of the officer and say he'd be fine if he complied. That's not true because that's exactly how the guy in Minnesota died. Trying to comply. The officer should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for murder. That guy had a life and rights and by all measures was a law abiding citizen and a criminal shot him to death in cold blood. You want to dismiss it as no problem than be my guest. Just don't be saddened by people shooting police officers. They're doing exactly what you just dismissed. A criminal acts as judge and jury, passes judgments and exacts a sentence. Only difference is one wasn't wearing a badge.

You know what's funny, is in almost every case the cop says he was in fear of his life, so I emptied the magazine. Yoy don't think that black people might be in fear of their life when dealing with a white cop?

It's okay, denial usually works with all social unrest.

Maybe take a look around at some other civilized (meaning the aren't currently in the midst of a war or revolution) countries and see how many unarmed people are killed a week by police. Then notice they also have civil rights and liberties similar to ours. Do you think it's city water that causes us to be the worst in the world.
